Heard an interview with knuckles Connelly earlier this morning on the radio . I don’t know if he has any history with Eddie jones ( he wasn’t complimentary) but he was paying out on the decision to get rid of dave Rennie and bring in Eddie , thinks they are worse off .

No history that I’m aware of and the way that I took what he said was more a swipe at the ARU and the whole process, timing etc. I didn’t mind Knuckles. He didn’t get long in the top job, just a couple of seasons and then was dumped.

Was good to hear the big man after a couple of tough years health wise.

@cgrant It's pretty hard to forecast this next match, because Fozzie could do anything. But, if he loses, he'll have to run out his top team the following week for fear of losing the Bled. So, I'm inclined to think a few changes, but probably not many. Something like:

    Williams
    Samisoni
    Lomax
    Retallick
    Whitelock
    Barrett
    Cane
    Savea
    Roigard
    Mo'unga
    Telea
    JBarrett
    Ioane
    Jordan
    DMac

    Coles
    Tu'ungafasi
    Laulala
    Frizell
    Jacobsen
    Christie
    ALB
    Fainga'anuku

Hopefully, lock the Bled and RC away and run the game time experiments the following week.

    Standard procedure.

He also made some weird selection choices, but was given a squad too long in the tooth.

It's funny because it was back in the days where we only just had our fourth team, and the rot had already set in re: player development. The theory that less teams = better performance is simply not a guarantee.

Are there any other good examples of players making the squad but never actually getting capped? Curious to know who missed out over the years?

Stevenson never made the squad, he was cover, which is different. However, it indeed happens with full squad members not getting a run as the coaches want them in for a looksie.

Have a feeling Rhys Duggan may have sat on the bench without getting on.

Who was the prop that won a RWC winners medal but didn't play?

David Halligan (not Daryl) (Otago?) scored all his sides points in the early trial back in the 70s or early 80s, named at fullback, got injured and never played.

    Would be others.

Oops, meant to reply to @chimoaus

I expect a conservative selection for this one, maybe Finau and Roigard off the bench, but no more than that.

Maybe DMac on the bench to come in at 10 to see how he goes with BB

Probably. Australia are one of those teams that if we are up by 48 at half time, I'll still be slightly concerned.

I'll be more concerned if they come out all fire and brimstone at the start, and get ahead of us. The rise when they play us, and their backs are against the wall

We turned in up in Boks 2 last year, No reason the Wobblies can't do the same. I'm expecting a tight game.

Eddie's probably plotting our downfall for this game, and forgotten about getting results in all of the other games

Wallabies have beaten ABs in Aus pre-world cup in the last 4 RWC years.

    07 - MCG
    11 - Suncorp
    15 - Homebush
    19 - Perth

Stevenson has been released, so he won't be playing.

All Blacks hopeful Shaun Stevenson will leave the team before their Bledisloe Cup trip to Melbourne in a fortnight, despite impressing in training.

Mafileo is still with the squad though.

    Stuff

Ah Jesus . What a waste.

    Foster is an idiot.

Considering the compliments he's publicly given to SS, you wonder if it was Schmidt and/or McLeod who had reservations.

If they had reservations, surely the best thing was to at least see how he performed for the ABXV?

    @Bones

He was injury cover and they wanted to work with him in camp on a few things around defence IIRC. Think they see him as a huge prospect but there's clearly a few issues they want ironed out

@Victor-Meldrew you'd think the head coach would have final say if he wanted someone that the others didnt or were on the fence with.

Almost feels like when Berryman got his run, public sentiment was he shold be there, but coaches werent convinced.

Did they actually say that, or is that just hit and hope from you?

Regardless, I remain thoroughly unconvinced about these "issues" which I haven't seen any explanation of. Especially so when you consider the top two fullbacks are Beauden McShovelshit and a guy who makes as many errors as unbelievable plays.

The kind of unbelievable plays we've seen Stevenson do, but without as many errors.

Sounds like mealy mouthed excuses to me, on a par with saying Taylor is the form hooker at the start of the 2022 international season.

Lip service for armchair critics like us who were calling for him to play

He was called in as injury cover and then released when players were fit again. It’s pretty straight forward
