They don't appear to trust most of the new boys, so I'm ready to stand by my point that Roigard, Finau, and McCloud will likely make way for players from the ABXV when we get to the WC. I reckon Akira, Weber, and ?? will get the call up for that squad.
I'm not even slightly surprised those guys haven't got a run yet.
This is our biggest test of the pre-RWC - not really a time for rookies.
They've got to axe some players from the 36 man squad and there's some injured guys potentially to come back - e.g. Moody, Havili and Blackadder.
Barring injuries, I don't see McLeod going to RWC - I think it will be Jordie, Reiko, ALB and Dave.
I think Finau is pretty unlikely, because SBarrett and Frizz are likely their sixes and Blackadder and Akira are floating around.
That being the case - and this is harsh - giving those guys game time is potentially wasted time (except for the possibility of injury call ups).
Youre making my point for me then. They should be with the ABXV where they probably belong.
Not necessarily. I think there are some line ball calls on those positions / players.
Having those 3 young guys in the environment for the first time so the AB coaches can get a closer look at them, see how they train and run the AB systems in practice, is no small thing. And yes holding tackle bags is still needed….
i just think that with the injuries, with it being a RWC year, limited tests, the AB XV mini-series, there are a number of plates to spin. One being balancing game opportunity and the fact coaches still want to see certain players in action but they aren’t first choice ABs.
I don’t disagree, except there are better (or at least more trusted) players wearing the AB XV shirt this week. Time will tell I guess when we see the WC squad named.

Fozzie on the news hinting he's keeping powder dry...
Good to hear. As long as said dry powder doesn’t include French or Georgian referees, we sweet

Wtf is going on ABs social media this year.
Last year/previous years they used to have interviews with Foz/players when the team was named, they used to post press conferences and they used to have 'In The Sheds' videos after the game and now all of that has been canned.
Talk about bare mininum.

surely that's run by Silver Lake now? Isn't that what they bring to the table?

But a good time to select on form.

Taylor offers little in go foreword so by the time Samisoni comes on we might be walking him to perform minor miracles.
If Taylor was streets ahead in set piece then fine. But he is notI am less worried about his attack than Taylor's form last year where he would seem to give up on tackling at crucial moments and could have lineout wobbles. He looked better last game but I'm still concerned.

“We were pleased with Beaudy last week. We enjoyed his control, and because Will wasn’t with us (he was left behind as a precaution after migraine-related issues delayed his Super Rugby entry), this is a chance to come in and get a bit of a groove going on the wing. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up at fullback, so there’s a chance to play round with how we finish games. That’s also part of the picture we’re looking at.”
-I'm no professional coach but I'm surprised Foster said they were happy with BB's control at fullback-he looked a little shaky to me and I thought early on he seemed to shovel it to Dmac nearly leading to an Argie try? Did my eyes deceive me?

Also said what I had posted earlier, DMac has had a lot of rugby this season, and they had it worked out last week who was playing, as I said the clue was probably he played 80 minutes. Same with Sam W, I would rather play safe with him, have seen too many out with achillies flaring up.
LOL what tiring defence? Without Sami on there is little in the front row to tire them out!
Lol at tiring defense when they have subbed 6 of 8 forwards

@antipodean Good idea to have a couple of form newbies on the bench and if the right conditions exist they can have 20 mins off the bench.
I think we should have more confidence in SR form. -

Interesting to hear Foz say Ennor is covering 12 and they've been working with him on that behind the scenes
Him and Rieko would make a pretty swift midfield.

Maybe this is the year that RMo turns super form in to test form
Maybe this is the year that RMo and BB sync in attack
Maybe this is the year that Frizzell justifies the faith and shows up with a display that is more than "solid"
Maybe this is the year.Or maybe hope and faith are actually shit strategies

@antipodean I could stare at that gif all day, what was this thread again?
I genuinely watched that repeat about 20 times, then started thinking about commenting on it, before scrolling down to see you had the same thoughts.

At this stage of the cycle we should have a core 12 players and then time and wiggle room for a flavour of the month , a Milner Skudder type with the hot hand (Stevenson) to be the icing on the cake.
4 games from word cup and we are still fluting around with Frizell, Beaudy, Caleb.
Its an omni shambles.
Mo'unga has won super rugby 7 years on the spin??? Is that right? And he has never been properly given the keys to the castle.
I love DMAC. He could play a blinder this week....and you know what happens next week? He is either dropped or shunted to 15 so Mo'unga gets a go.
EVERYONE has been done a disservice since 2019 including Beaudy. Backrow the same.
As predicted.....DMAC jettisoned. Fozzie gonna Foz.
-
I've got no problem that RM is starting but in my mind would have been logical to have DMac in the 23 if things go pear shaped. He's a brilliant sub too cos of his versatility
-
Yes, the longer they persist with hoping it changes, the older and less confident the players become and it means it gets further away from happening.
Fozzie ain’t going to change now though with 9tests left on his watch.
With Schmidt and Ryan running the side now, we are better placed to do well and actually have modern tactics applied the this AB side. Watching Ireland bamboozle us with their attacking patterns was embarrassing
We will have to wait till next year where we will have real change and the moaning will probably be around a crusader bias.
