Is it the best player to play for [Insert team] or the player who played the best for [Insert team]
That's where the discussion will divide the room
im not sure they know if im honest...seems to change from selection to selection

@foobaNZ even when Northland was in the old 2nd div, we'd get >10k every week, but back then, ABs still played NPC too.
I mean the Northland v Central Vikings (@Nepia ) games had plenty of star power, none less than Cully!
That first year Vikings team was pretty star studded. Although the second year was the better team (when they got rid of most of the Poo riff raff ). Your Northland teams also had some stars back then too like Norm Berryman and Glen Taylor.

The top dog
So Nonu and Lomu miss out. Lomu I can sort of understand because he played for 3 teams. Even so I had him in my Canes top 10. Along with Nonu

22 apps and 13 tries
-
@Bones @FakatavaAllBlack i think the list of players who deserve it over evans is....long
edit: did a google....maybe lima is a good shout
-
@FakatavaAllBlack @Kiwiwomble yeah I hadn't really thought about it, was just plucking a random name I was sure I hadn't seen! Almost went barracuda...
-
i struggle to take any Highlanders list without Brendan Laney on it seriously
-
i want to hate heaps of that Chiefs list
SBW can do one for a start.
Mine would have more glorious failure type chiefs. Local heroes
Jonno Gibbes was the heart and soul of the place. Marty Holah is better than Sam Cane too.
Beaver, Lauaki and DMac are all definites. And Messam was the easiest choice.

@Crucial Nonu played 126 games for the Canes scoring 48 tries. I call that a pretty handy contribution.
If we won in 2015 he would be near the top of this list but to not have him in the top 10 is crazy.
Nonu being poor at Super level is a myth when it comes to the Canes! He was only poor for the Blues and Landers, he was absolutely phenomenal for the Canes, I'd have him in the top 3.

in the early years when he was just a physical beast, before he became Nonu 2.0, he was awesome in Super Rugby.

@KiwiMurph big fan of taine actually, was playing for the AB's and Highlanders and still came down to dunedin clubrooms when he could...but he didn't top any lists of games/points/trys etc, biggest achievement is probably being captain when we lost a final
would have him over evans but not the other names mentioned

Came across this description of Cullen on Reddit, and it's spot on.
Prime Cullen on the kick return was like a renaissance painting happening in slow motion; just a bloke languidly drifting to the tryline with a baby jesus-esque placid look on his face while 15 blokes in other jerseys tumble over each other reaching in agonised despair trying to get a single fingertip on him.
