Telea is such a solid player. May not be as spectacular as a Will Jordan but utterly dependable.
Def. the sort of player you need in a RWC.
On tonight's evidence I'm not even sure that's true ...

Yeah I've got him above Jordan. Just makes every decision on the money. But I don't seem to rate Jordan as high as most people anyway.

I'm going to be honest, I didn't know Telea was slow. I mean he's half black South African so I just assumed he was fast.
Anyway, I think it's rule for the ABs to have a slow winger in a RWC - it worked out with NMS, not so much with Bridge though.
I think he's just got a strange, stiff running style which makes him look like he's struggling. A bit like Ardie's old man run, he's going faster than it looks.

Yeah, but overall he reminds me of those great soccer strikers (think Lineker) who score loads of goals - virtually all of which you'd regard as workmanlike rather than spectacular. Which is a skill in itself

The soccer reference is wasted on me, but his tries tonight leaned more towards the spectacular than the workmanlike (IMHO obviously ).

They certainly looked like good tries and he is a wonderfully balanced runner for sure.
But it was one of those games wasn’t it….
Pissing out of the heavens, wet track, ball bouncing everywhere. Players unable to adjust to quick changes of direction in the wet.
Can he do it in Ellis park on sunkissed grass.
I jest. I jest.
Hopefully he can keep it up. Whether it’s him Narawa , Stevenson or Jordan we need a couple of guns out wide.
2019 was insipid with Bridge, Beauden , Goodhue, ALB in the back line. Yuck

Will Jordan is a freak. You can’t coach pace.
No one else in the squad scores the try he scored against Ireland in the Cake Tin.

I kind of agree Bones, I was thinking I would have him above Jordan, who though I always sung the praises of , worried me at times with his workrate etc.
While I can understand @Steve saying you can't coach pace and the try against Irish last year, it was superb, and had me on feet yelling at game. Only trouble was that beautiful scorching run was almost only time he looked interested in that test.
Thing that made me think Telea was ahead of him is his work under high ball that in that test I though Jordan was poor at, he never really tried to take one. I also thought and commented after that test maybe he was off colour or smething, I like him as player, but a little worried about things like workrate. -

I agree about Jordans workrate but his highlight reel is 98th percentile stuff. There aint many other players scoring those tries.
Telea seems to be a money in the bank player. Doest get bundled into touch. Has enough wheels. Is deceptively strong.
I can just visualise the big boys dealing with him. He aint making a bust like that on static ball from the half way line without meeting a Doris, Van Der Flier or O'Mahoney type.
That's why you need to be freakishly fast or freakishly strong or both to REALLY be an ace up the sleeve.
I hope im wrong. Not hating on the guy at all. But he has had a few quiet weeks and essentially came up against a touch footie team in the pissing rain.
If he backs it up ill shut my gob.
Stevenson is doing it every week.

Telea is a gamer and is he really slow?
I don't think people are claiming he is slow but some, like me, have reservations about whether he has the top end pace to be as effective at test level.
He's worth a punt though, because if he can do the same things for the ABs he will be handy. -
Saw the highlights. Jeepers Telea showed all the skills and then some for those tries. He HAS to be in the mix. His balance and spacial awareness is pretty damn freakish I must say.
For those that say he’s slow perhaps this is only in comparison to the fastest 13 I can ever recall playing inside him ?
-
I suspect it is Telea's running style, I thought he wasn't that fast at international level but a few tries recently have got me reconsidering, he is fast enough at wing methinks. What interests me most is he seems to have sudden bursts of acceleration that come out of nowhere.
-
@Steve No argument about super vs test defences mate, and not suggesting otherwise, just pointing out some things that Will has to work on to get to top of tree in my opinion. The very best players don't just have a couple of 15 second highlight packages to show their worth is all I mean.
