Wellington Hostel Fire

Man arrested for arson now. That's actually really evil. Far out.

@No-Quarter Almost everyone likes a good fire and I get for a few that goes beyond simply the warmth and comfort of a blazing log, but what sort of sicko deliberately lights a fire in a hostel, at night, when people will be sleeping, when it's obvious the building doesn't have state of the art fire suppression?
At the very least there has to be multiple manslaughter charges, but given the definition 'Manslaughter generally refers to accidental homicide arising from an unlawful act or failure to act, where death could not reasonably be expected." it sounds more like murder to me.

Could be recklessness or even deliberate lack of care to the outcome but somehow given the circumstances and some 'clientele' it wouldn't surprise me if might be someone mentally ill or someone with impaired judgement (ie not understanding consequences of actions)
Doesn't excuse the actions but is a reason why Risk mitigations and safeguards are meant to be in place. There are people in our community like that and we can't rely on them acting as we expect 'normal' people to.

Wellington is full of aggressive, smelly deros asking for money and being disorderly in the central city. Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if one of them got pissed off and lit a fire without thinking of the consequences

Fuck it. @SynicBast appears to be one of the missing

Hmmmm, lots of Wellington Facebook pages said he was “confirmed to have survived”
New Zealand journalism at its finest once again.

I used to live about 100m from there so used to see a few of the regulars wandering out when I waited for a bus. There's one guy that plenty of CBD peeps would recognise, so I hope he made it through.
Sadly, it appears he didn't (yes, I was talking about Mike the Juggler).

Sad, but fuck he looked 67 when I first remember him like 30 years ago.

I guess life on the streets will age a man.
This happened to him too. Whilst lots of homeless people are violent and aggressive I’m fairly sure he wasn’t and didn’t deserve this.

I'm all good. Thankfully I live in a boarding lodge in Mt Vic overlooking the Basin rtahre than Loafer's Lodge which catered for a rather different level of clientele. I've been working 7 days a week until very recently which is why I've been absent (that and falling out of love with rugby).
Really appreciate the concern.
