@Rancid-Schnitzel i guess the question is then, if its not misogyny, if he doesnt have a problem with these characters being female...then why mention it? when he talks about bo having to save him twice...why not just leave it with "our previously super experienced and skilled Mando has had to be saved twice in the first few episodes, they seem to be shifting focus to another character which i dont like"...labouring the "strong female character" line definitely makes it sound like that is at least part of his problem

See MN5's very good explanation above. Surely it's possible to make that argument without simply hating women? The whole point is that they are definitely going very very hard on the whole "strong female hero" thing and to the extent where it's becoming something of a meme. Just check out the latest reincarnation of He-Man. Spoiler: they literally kill He-man in the first episode and the entire series is the adventures of Teela.

But again, that's a distraction because his point about where the franchise currently stands is completely spot on.

@Rancid-Schnitzel you definitely can make the argument, see the comments about Rey (force user with no training, fighting kylo with no training), but the critique of lots of other seems to boil down to them just being women who kick arse and that not being believable or people just not liking seeing it...like the only think he mentions as for why he doesn;t like them...is theyre women

and re it being over done, we've had god know how many years of unbelievably male centric cinema....im sure we can survive if they swing it a little too far the other way

    I never said that.

More a case of a good male fighter is always better than a good female fighter. These latest strong females seem ridiculously overpowered. To be fair not only confined to the girls though, the scene where Mando, Fett and Fennic wasted about 40 Storm Troopers without a scratch on any of them was a bit stupid. It was real Keystone Cops from the men in white.

it’s not like SW hasn’t had strong females in the past either, Leia and Padme certainly spring to mind.

    @MN5

but they do give good, imo, explanations (unlike rey), cara is litterally built like a brick shit house, Bo has been born and raised to be the leader of a military culture, fennic is an assassin, shes not generally swinging a club around, she snips with a gun most often and dones some acrobatic shit...there is still far more male character that kick arse over all in Star wars to each their own so is it just that we see them all in the same series?...too any women?

I find comments like this really strange. Women and girls have had plenty of films, TV, entertainment etc that cater exclusively to them. Ever heard of chick flicks? You think Sex and the City or umpteen other series or films were going after the male demographic? I had a "step daughter" for 3 years and, if anything, she had too much choice. So I'm not really sure why any swing was required, and definitely not too far in one direction. There's plenty of room for everyone. Existing properties don't need to be drastically changed for that.

Fair enough. I did re edit my original post.

To further add to your post Ashoka is an extremely powerful Jedi Knight.

Maybe the girls are just bearing the brunt of my criticism of the new series. Han, Luke, Leia etc struggled to put away troopers much more than these guys do.

Han got decked by a Scout Trooper and Luke and Leia really struggled to catch the others. They only escaped the Death Star cos Moff Tarkin ordered it.

In the latest movies, series etc though they’re a joke. Any less than 20 of them is basically target practice.

Their combat instructors need to be fired for this inept training

you know not all women are the same aye, they don't all like chick flicks, lot probably really enjoy seeing women kick arse on screen, have you heard of the Bechdel Test? it shocking how many movies cant even manage to have two women talk to each other about something other than a man, the sequels actually pass the test but hang heavily on Rey and Leia talking to each other, I mean all three trilogies have two male leads and one female

Well in this case it’s hard to get a word in with Finn running round screaming for Rey every five minutes.

I think I'll just let this one go to the keeper. Let's focus on possible better plots rather than female representation

To be fair though, I’m not sure Stormtrooper training deals with Jake the Muss.

Oh goodie, the Star Wars thread has just looped back round to the same old shit, back to the future.

I will contribute my usual then: the prequels are shit stacked upon shit, stacked upon shit, stacked upon shit. I consider the final JJ Abrams movie spiritually a prequel too.

Still more entertaining and more variety than any thread about Foster though.

Yeah I liked it, it also has a bit of an old school / retro feel to it, which comes off pretty well IMO.

Bo Katan's Mandolorian suit is pretty well shaped too...

I did think though, it is somewhat amusing that I expect they pay Pedro a fair old chunk of cash, yet you never even see his face, its just his voice.

mystery-thriller set in the High Republic era of the galaxy’s history. Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae are starring as the show’s leads, a Padawan learner and her Jedi Master, who set out to investigate several crimes that might be tied to the Sith.

that sounds more like what ive wanted to see, a quick google confirms the High Republic ended 80BBY so shouldn't have much crossover with any of the other tv/movie except maybe a young palpatine?

Had a fun vibe tonight. Am sure there will complaints about stunt casting, but that was an old school adventure episode.
