Without taking Moana Pasifika lightly (due to last year’s result) I think it’s a good opportunity to rest Jordie Barrett and Tyrel Lomax, along with the likes of Proctor and Moorby.

Now I don’t know who’s available for next week but I feel like Love isn’t far away. If he’s ready and available I think this would be a fun team to showcase against Moana Pasifika.

    1. Pouri Rakate-Stones
    2. Asafo Aumua
    3. Pasilio Tosi
    4. Dominic Bird
    5. Isaia Walker-Leawere
    6. Devan Flanders
    7. Peter Lakai
    8. Ardie Savea (c)
    9. Jamie Booth
    10. Brett Cameron
    11. Salesi Rayasi
    12. Riley Higgins
    13. Bailyn Sullivan
    14. Daniel Sinkinson
    15. Ruben Love ??
    16. Jacob Devery ??
    17. Xavier Numia
    18. Owen Franks
    19. TK Howden
    20. Brayden Iose
    21. Cam Roigard
    22. Aiden Morgan
    23. Kini Naholo

    Rested after big mins
    Billy Proctor
    Jordie Barrett
    James Blackwell
    Julian Savea
    Tyrel Lomax
    Josh Moorby

Just to jog your memory in case you want to make any changes to your lineup this is the Hurricanes side that got tipped over 19 - 24 up at Mt. Smart on March 25 last year, the game that was the MPs first ever win. Incidentally the TAB odds for that game were Hurricanes $1.01 Moana Pasifika $12

    Hurricanes: 1-Xavier Numia, 2-Asafo Aumua, 3-Tyrel Lomax, 4-Caleb Delany, 5-Scott Scrafton, 6-Reed Prinsep, 7-Blake Gibson, 8-Brayden Iose, 9-TJ Perenara, 10-Aidan Morgan, 11-Wes Goosen, 12-Teihorangi Walden, 13-Peter Umaga-Jensen, 14-Josh Moorby, 15-Jordie Barrett
    Reserves: 16-James O'Reilly, 17-Alex Fidow, 18-Tevita Mafileo, 19-Tom Parsons, 20-Ardie Savea, 21-Cameron Roigard, 22-Ruben Love, 23-Salesi Rayasi

It's a risk. But Canes need to rest all their ABs over the next 2 weeks. So either this coming week vs MP. Or at home the next week vs the force

    My thoughts on this are:

    • I would wait to rest Lomax until next week because we will get Mafileo back for the Force.
    • I would rest either Coles or Aumua this week so the other is available for next week.
    • Jordie can be rested at any point, he has a more than capable replacement in Higgins waiting to come in, same with Ardie.

Do you know if Aumua is under the resting protocols? It seems to be the players involved in that early year AB camp/get together if that's any help.

@Crucial not 100% sure, if he's not then that works out better.

I would think that he might be.

Sammy T and Taylor are the only 'locked in' hookers. Coles is now a second fiddle super player and none of the three AB XV players look ready for test rugby yet

You don't think Aumua looks ready? He's been superb to start the year.

I just re-asked the question because I'm surprised you think Aumua isn't ready for test rugby, assuming he's one of the three AB XV hookers you're referring to. His set piece performance has improved dramatically in the last half a year so I'm just interested to know why you think he's not ready yet?

    Makalio

Hmmm, maybe I'm getting confused because I think Aumua was initially in the AB XV and then he was moved into the main side, but didn't take the field. Too long ago for me to accurately recall.

I do agree though, those other three hookers are a bit average.

I think he was one of the 3 hookers originally named in the AB XV squad but he floated up to the AB squad

Yes, Aumua was originally named in the AB XV squad but was one of the 6 players later replaced (by Thompson in his case) as he was promoted to the AB squad.

Cheers, so back to the original point. He would likely be on the managed play list then.
Currently sits at 4 in the pecking list and I can't see anyone overtaking him.
More likely that he overtakes Coles.

The three hookers originally chosen were Aumua, Bell and McAlister so Makalio was a replacement too. Aumua would definitely be the next hooker outside the established three, even though he never played a test on the EOYT.

I definitely think he's jumped Infront of Coles now, Coles just doesn't seem to be the same player he used to be. Age is getting the better of him I feel.

I don't disagree. It's more what the selectors think though. They may be happy to carry Coles as an experienced backup.
The third choice hooker will only play minnow games to rest the other two and be there for injury cover.
Hopefully Aumua gets a chance during the test season to be that third player with Coles waiting at home as the experienced backup that can seemlessly join camp.

Whatever his ranking I'd say he is certainly on the rest list and you need to take that into account in team selections and planning.

@Crucial from a Hurricanes standpoint, they may also wait until Jacob Devery comes back in aswell, he shouldn't be too far away so that should help if the likes of Coles needs to take a rest over the next couple weeks.

Because the Canes are poor at updating injuries, it's pretty much a guessing game.
