There are no guarantees with any candidate. That said, I'm still in the Razor camp. It would seem he is a very down to earth man manager and communicator. Anyone feel free to correct this assumption with ITK

Razor's got to be the front runner. Although I wouldn't be shocked if JJ got it as well. What I do want is teh best coaches coaching there- not stitching up assistants into teams. That shit is farked.

Not sure what you mean, the NZR might choose a coach then tell them their assistants? Has such a thing happened in recent memory?
As I can't see them trying to bring together any 2 of the 3 frontrunners and I assume applicants had to present as already formed coaching teams...then again, not sure if any significant part of the process is public knowledge....

    Not sure what you mean,

Candidates assembling teams of assistants to interview with.

just get the people in, select one, and then identify the best assistants for them.

Couldn’t agree more. It’s so inane thinking you need to bring a team with you. I know sport doesn’t equal business, but the analogy of a CEO interviewing with a replacement CFO, COO and his favourite HR rep is laughable.

Any decent coach should be able to assemble a decent team of assistants once appointed

Yes I see your point, arguably the pre-selection of assistant coaches affected the 2019 process more than it should have.

@voodoo to be fair, we've seen in the past year what a difference the team of assistants can make though.

@Bones I can understand them wanting a team, but maybe they appoint the coach, then in conjunction with the coach, work on his team from a group of candidates.

Although if we do it this way we might end up with McLeod as our defence coach...

I'm not convinced McLeod could coach such a successfully punishing defender.

@nostrildamus Wonder if the Abs might go down the road of an NRL defence coach for the World Cup.

    Well this is surprising
.....given he got the job 3 weeks ago.....

    Stuff
Joe Schmidt won’t apply for the All Blacks head coaching role.

Schmidt released a short statement on Saturday that also ruled out the possibility of him working with either Scott Robertson or Jamie Joseph, the leading candidates to succeed Ian Foster.

“I have really enjoyed being back on the grass coaching with the Blues and the All Blacks,” he said. “I very much appreciate those opportunities, but presented with a condensed time frame this year, I won’t be applying for any coaching roles that extend beyond the Rugby World Cup.

@KiwiMurph Really hope he stays on in some capacity even if it is with one of the Super rugby franchises.

I am absolutely shocked and appalled by that. My faith in anonymous internet sources has taken a real hit. Feeling a bit lost right now.

Maybe it's the same family circumstances that brought him back from Ireland in the first place

Yeah that must be a factor that hasn’t gone away.
