Rennie with Plumtree and Ellison as assistants would do nicely.
Gibbes can F off.
Would Rennie coach the Canes after how shit the organisation treated him in the past? I think he'd prefer the Blues.
I'd say yes. Esp living in PN
Not sure where he has houses will factor into his decision too much. But, his place in the Hutt would be more of a drawcard than the Palmy one.
What? Who would chose to live in the Hutt?? PN may not be pick of the crop, but the Hutt would rate well below I imagine! Christ with all due respect to Hutt residents,.
Nowhere rates below PN. Nowhere.
Have you never been to Stokes Valley?
We can restrict the tag to cities.
Get the point though.

I live in the Hutt. It's great. Only a 20 minute train ride into the city for work. Warmer than the city. Great golf courses. Plenty of good cafes and bars in Petone. The Hutt is awesome!
You are missing the big factor when talking sports.
The new NZCIS ( https://www.nzcis.co.nz/ ) is phenomenal.
Best sports and training equipment/ tech from around the world. Used by Lions, Hurricanes, Poua, Phoenix, Phoenix Women and visiting teams.
Don't know if Rennie still has property in Upper Hutt but he'd be 5 minutes drive away.@Crucial said in Hurricanes 2023:

Add in Brewtown in Upperhutt and it is a lot better than the dire place it used to be. The Hutt has a massive advantage sporting wise over the city. Available flat land.

Yeah, that's the equivalent of me putting forward one of the many many terrible PN suburbs or satellite towns. I was genuinely surprised that they didn't film Deliverance in the Poo.

@Crucial My old Hyundai Sonata seems to have taken a liking to the area after I mistakenly used it as a mode of transport to Delaney Park once. It must have been so unhappy to leave the area that it decided to run away and hide (has never been spotted again by anyone since that day) and not have to go back to suffer the wind and sea spray of Lyall Bay. Of course having no transport back into town did result in an enlongated stay at the Stokes Valley RFC bar whilst I sorted out whether public busses risked travelling through the area. A most pleasant couple of hours spent there despite everything else (we got beaten thanks to a last minute penalty goal that "shaved" the upright (as politely as it could be described) against the run of play in the sixth minute of injury time so just sometimes things can be unexpectedly surprising.

Good Petone lad @Stargazer 😁
-
Comes across very well.
Is he just allocated to Petone during super rugby but still available for Hawkes Bay. Or available for Wellington now?
We need another option to Morgan
But regardless I hope to see more of him on the field this WE. He seems like an exciting prospect. And 4 to cover 1st 5 where 1 is mainly a FB is a good place to be. Esp with the injuries year after year at the Canes.
Morgan is OK but inconsistent. Cameron I've yet to see play yet. Love has the most potential but struggles with his option taking. We need someone who can get close at least to Barretts or Crudens level. Not another Gopperth

I think he’s still contracted to Hawkes Bay but has played for Petone during club season last year (the reason I can’t quite remember).
I think we need to be a little more patient on the Morgan front, he’s still so young and far from the finished product.
Love hasn’t even been playing 10 so I think we need to rule him out of that position going forward unless injuries mount up. His position is clearly fullback especially now Barrett has moved to 12.
Godfrey is a bright talent aswell but at 19 is also nowhere near the finished product. It’s great we have options, I just hope when the time comes to lock down a long term 10, we choose the right guy.

It's hard to find and attract the right guy though. But if Godfrey is the goods (or could be) they must hold onto him (like they did Higgins and Lakai). That comes back to having the right management team and esp a great head coach. Winning helps too.
I know what you're saying about Morgan and sometimes I write players off too quickly. But right now at best I feel he will only ever be an adequate super rugby player. He lacks the basics that Barrett had. One being very fast. Another being consistent. My issue with rugby I was great one week and shit the next. Depending on how I woke up feeling.
Morgan though will be a great back up to a potential AB starting first 5. Thats what the Canes need to find. Another Barrett or Cruden. Or Sopoaga

Hurricanes Hunters side named to play the Crusaders dev.

@Winger that calibre of player is hard to get though unless you get a young gun from your region who becomes your starter, like Barrett and Cruden until he left.
At least these young guys have promise. Rather them than a proven dud in JGB.
JGB had some great games esp for Wellington But too many poor or average ones. For example he was great in last yrs NPC v Auckland. But poorish in the final. Morgan replaced JGB but was worse. Both are inconsistent (as Morgan also had some good games before he lost his starting position).

@Canes4life So Bird is fit to play and available for selection

He's too tall for Holland obviously.

Hopefully Sangster is back soon. Him and IWL would be my starting 2. Won't happen though with Blackwell there.
Dislocated thumbs take about 6 weeks. So I don't think we'll see Sangster back until about round 6/7
