I think with Harry what is shows is how different ODI cricket was in the 90s vs now.
In the 99 CWC 300 was only scored 3 times in the whole tournament.
I read an article that said in 1999 the average strike rate of batsmen in ODIs was 73.47 and in 2019 the average strike rate was 92.18.
Harry these days wouldn't be nearly as valuable as he was in the 90s. Different era.
Definitely, I was surprised he didn’t have more big moments but I might stop commenting now in case I get ripped apart again.
He had a lot of not outs because his job was often to anchor the latter part of the innings while the other end did the hitting.
Fuck Harry. Worst NZ cricketer ever
Harry fan here as well. Best in the field, good at slowing the economy rate, anchor of a batsman saving us from some low scores on multiple times.
But mainly because of two thing.
- The game where he hit two 6's and the tv camera's actually managed to follow the ball. For the young 'uns on the board, when players used to hit a 6 you used to stare at nothing as the definition / lighting was so bad you could never see the ball until it came down to the crowd and you saw people jumping for it.
- Side on run out in the opening match of the 92 world cup.
Yeah he was bloody good in the the field wasn’t he ?

Kieran Read paid the price for facing pace...

Harry as a bowler would have been even more effective in T20 IMO. By the mid-point of his career his bowling revolved more around changes of pace and variation than bowling cutters - which is exactly what T20 bowling at his pace is all about. He also seemed to massively benefit from the batsman going after him rather than milking him.
As a batsman though it is tough to see that he would have been even a middle order player. He had a bit of that Ross Taylor thing where his hands moved five times faster than his feet for the first 25 balls of his innings and so was often bogged down early even though he was canny at finding the gaps once he got things going. The lack of a real top gear would make it tough for him to bat any higher than 8.

I won't bother watching coz of that. But, I guess it caters for the audience they want.

Australian Mens Cricket Coach.
Can't believe I didn't know that!
Edit: I see he even played a test in 2009 and went on an Ashes Tour. I have no memory of him.

The (only?) funny thing about the Alternative Commentary Collective and their vocal fans is that they usually turn each time they're on TVNZ into 'tee hee, boring old people hate us and complain about us heaps, okay Boomers!! LOLz'
Hate is too strong. Listening to them is just Meh and constant repetition after the first five minutes or so...

Or when they give someone a nickname and make sure they repeat it 50 times in case we missed it.
Hauraki is great though so it’s a shame commentary doesn’t work for them as a medium
