@Kirwan I think Piutau's omission had more to do with the fact that he had already agreed 'in principle' to a contract extension with NZR and then accepted an offer from Ulster instead of returning the signed contract to NZR.

Perhaps, but you said "never" and he's an example of it happening. He also wanted to play for the Blues after the World Cup before going, but was also denied by Tew - so they can be pretty petty about these things.

@Kirwan Again, I don't think Piutau is a good example as going overseas was not necessarily the (main) reason for not being selected. It was far more likely the way he went about it. Pulling out of an agreement late; ditching NZR while he already had the contract at home. Obviously, not playing SR then didn't help his cause, either.

But you may be right. Maybe "never" was a too strong word to use. "Rarely" may be better. Just in case someone can find the odd example (other than Piutau).

@Stargazer Charles Piutau was hardly set in stone test player when he went anyway.

That’s literally my point. Similar situation to Frizell.

I think Shannon is a 'play him when fit' player for Foster. He's very loyal that way. But anyway, we shall see.

@nostrildamus I actually think Frizell is also very important to way that Foster and Ryan want the forwards to operate, a 6 that trucks ball up close to breakdown etc, atually Scott Barrett plays same kind of game at 6.

I think SB is his preferred six, but had to cover lock because of injuries to various players and not trusting Vaai.

He’s basically at the Bridge stage of stubborn selection with Frizzel, and needs a push to trust AI who has delivered everything that the woman beater has at Test level and has a higher ceiling for improvement.

Happy with SB and Frizzell to keep pushing each other for that 6 spot in AB's. Both fit the game plan. But SB allows you to compete harder against opposition lineout. Maybe that will be important in the big games at RWC if teams keep using driving mauls as a primary weapon against us.
I think RWC will be decided by how teams play to avoid giving away penalties and cards in their own half. Work rate in competing legally will be imperative.

I think we have 6 genuinely world class players at the moment, who would be in the conversation for a world 15:

    2 - Samisoni
    4 - Whitelock
    8 - Savea
    12 - Jordie
    13 - Rieko
    14 - Jordan

The rest of our squad a varying degrees of good to excellent. Brodie and Smith are also very experienced and have the ability to step up in the big games too.

I think we should be able to build a team around that core that is capable of winning the WC. I liked what I was seeing on the EOYT, definitely heading in the right direction and starting to utilise our strengths better.

@No-Quarter Hell I not sure if any of them would make a world XV
Samisoni maybe a reserve, SamW and Savea the most likely, and Reiko getting close.

I know he was outstanding when he finally moved to 12 but really ? Don’t you want a bigger sample size before making these claims ?

I'll settle for saying Jordie is one of the first names on the team sheet right now

Absolutely, he's a world class player at both 12 and 15, but better suited to 12. He probably doesn't make the world player of the year due to the sample size, but he's starting 12 in my world 15 every day of the week. Who the hell else is there? De Allende? Very limited player compared to Jordie.

I’m a fan of De Allende and Henshaw for that matter. Fair to say until Jordie came along they shat all over anyone we could produce in the 12 jersey.

I agree with him, along with the injury enforced front row change over. I wonder if Foster sees it the same
