No one is bigger than the jersey. BB will almost certainly make the RWC23 team, then he should go abroad and enjoy his semi-retirement

@canefan yeah I can kinda see how something like what Aus do might work, and having it set at say 80 caps and only if you didn't take a sabbatical - but then I think what we have now has generally worked in the past anyway.

Only player I can really think of right now that's worth it would be Smith, but then that's purely due to the gap behind him, which would be bridged in a year or two anyway.

Huh, does he really think he'll still be an AB when the Cantablacks are back in 2024? 😉

Lol you could argue Beauden is already well past his best.

BB would be one of the highest paid ABs, but I guess you can never have enough money...

I have no issue if he was playing for the Reds/Tahs/Drua or whoever in same comp (or a Saffa team when they were part of it) I def think that needs relaxing, but otherwise nope.

Maybe 2 or 3 years ago he may have had an argument to make demands like that, but now in his twilight and indifferent form, yeah nah.

I would call it a request rather than a demand. No harm is asking. I'm sure it will get turned down and I suspect Barrett knows that too

@Duluth is a request now, but he could probably have made it a demand a few years back 😉

Dudes already had a sabbatical hasnt he?

Some of those bolters are pretty weird picks. Even though Segner is one of my Ta$man boys, I doubt he's currently in the top 15 loose forwards in the country.

I'd have Moody in and Taávao out - Ofa as a tighthead.

    Coles in Aumua out.

If Scott Barrett is going to play 6 then only one - at most - of Frizell and AIoane will make it. I reckon Blackadder has a good shot.

Midfield - well, they have to decide where they're going to play Jordie, because it would be ridiculous to pick him as a fullback (as this article does) if he's the first choice second five (and that's where we are right now). So QT drops out or my team and a space opens up at the back.

I have Dmac over Steve Perofeta and then there's a fight between Sevu's versatility vs Telea's displacement of him with one space remaining available depending on all the utility options.

    .

Not a Fan of the Barrett request at all not just because it is BB but if anyone asked no,Beaver is right imo it would stuff SR and NPC totally.

Our competitions would be come 3rd rate and just be a feeder to Europe and Japan.

I'd take Aumua over Coles now, he was dynamite in the NPC and his throwing was superb throughout the finals. I guess that selection will come down to who plays better for the Canes in 2023. I expect Aumua will start most games.

I'm not sure you can trust Coles to remain fit, and at 36 that becomes increasingly less likely. We are looking for the 3rd hooker so better to select Aumua as there can be continuity post-RWC.

If Coles remains fit he's a better hooker so I wouldn't select Aumua with an eye to the future. If Coles breaks then just bring Aumua in (who would likely have trained with the squad anyway). Same as if Taylor reverts to his last two years minus EOYT form ... actually who am I kidding, Taylor is a protected species.

@Nepia Yeah - if Coles is fit, I think they'll pick him - unless Aumua very clearly outplays him in Super rugby.

In World Cup year you've got to pick your best players and there's a reasonable probability of our third hooker having to play plenty of minutes in knockout rugby. I'd trust Coles to do that more than Aumua, right now.
