Interesting isn't it for all that Gatland who has no success at all with Chiefs is preferred choice, and proves point some very good coaches are better at different levels, as there is qyuite different skills required for each job.
Starkly shown when Gats took over the Chiefs. Super Rugby is very different to the test game and he found that out fast.
Winning the game is the sole aim in tests. Managing a Super squad full of talented players all with desires to showcase their skills for higher honours is a different game.
Test rugby isn't so much a step up as a step into a different world. Many capable coaches can't find the formula for the players at their disposal to look good in tests. I guess that Gatland did with Warrenball.Yep ann
d I think another thing some coaches fall over is not being the best selectors, where as in a super they have a fixed squad, and that is opposite problem maybe.
Always felt that was Robboe Deans downfall with Aus. -

Eddie must be bricking it following this news
Yeah what was his salary again? Over a mill. He'll be gutted to get an ambassador/pundit gig for the world cup to stack on top of that just to pass the time.

Ms cato No2 has said the scuttlebutt is that Borthwick is taking over the England job. Not sure of the sauce and I've seen nothing in the news as yet.
Edit: She has it from The Good, the Bad and the Rugby and "as being confirmed".

Confirmed. Sacked.

heaps of social media chat Eddie will follow today.
crazy shit.
I find going back to Gatland hilarious for some reason
Certainly a very odd thing to do and I’m not sure it’s the right decision. A lot is made of his success with Wales, which is undeniable but there was an alarming lack of consistency in there too. Champions one year and 5th the next sort of thing.
Wales would take that right now. Beats being whacked by Georgia at home and falling to 9th in the world. And it could be 11th soon as Italy and Japan have them in their sights. Samoa would fancy them right now too 😉

The RFU have confirmed that Richard Cockerill will take over the day-to-day running of the team in the interim until a new coach is appointed.

Not really a surprise. Jones' style is good for one world cup cycle. After that, players and coaches are fatigued by him.
I really hope Sir Clive comes back in and bombs hard (sorry @Catogrande), if for no other reason than it will mean we never see his smug face on TV again.

Yeah, but Sir Clive won a world cup. That's worth at least a 10% bump on his average 🤣

Eddie used a crazy number of players in his tenure and capped more than any other England coach (47 debutants up to 2021) and also burned through 18 assistant coaches -

I recall telling my English mates that Eddie would crash and burn after 1 World Cup and leave them in a complete mess as this seemed to be his preferred MO.

England should just aim for he RC semis and start talking to Farrell now about taking over after that.

For all the negatives being written about Eddie, one thing must always be respected.
The English rugby media absolutely hated him.
He deserves credit for at no point towing the line to that complete bunch of piston wristed gibbons.
While I take your point, I recall the piston wristed gibbons who pose as rugby journalists praised him to the skies when he was winning and thought him a rugby genius.

The exit of Wisemantel, Borthwick and Mitchell as why performance fell off a cliff.

Whilst I've found Eddie's selection and intransigence around some players and positions over the last couple of years both mystifying and annoying, I am not sure now is the time to get rid of him. If this had happened a year ago I'd be more comfortable with it and to be honest the same signs that we're seeing today were there 12 months ago. Is this sacking a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to the the booing from the Twickenham crowd? I'd be surprised if that wasn't a large part of the driver here.
Anyway, thank you Eddie for dragging us out of the misery of 2015 and providing some real memories. Grand Slam, 3 6N titles, series whitewash in Aus, 18 match winning streak, dismantling of Ireland pre RWC 2019, first win over NZ in a RWC (with a great performance to boot)and reaching the RWC final (the less said about THAT game the better). Finally another series win from behind in Aus.
Much to be grateful for as an England supporter.

They did the same with Woodward and Johnson. We know they're fluffybunnies and we shouldn't be surprised.
Edit: In this instance I'm a bit annoyed about the fluffybunny filter.

He is a rugby genius. Just has a use by date!
When they turned on him he doubled down and told them he didn’t give a fuck what they wrote.
