Womens RWC 2021 -NZ to host

I am seriously wondering if it is a thing with the refs as a group that they are allowing players latitude to get away from the back of the ruck.
So many examples that would be pinged in the mens game that are let go. Just watch England do it 3 times in one play.
Cocksedge was going nuts at the ref yesterday about it (and the hands all over the ball). Ref just shrugs it off. Although someone may have had a word in her ear at halftime as she did tidy things up a bit second half. -

There have been discussions about this among women's rugby experts (coaches, current and former players) - I think one or two years ago - and the main view seemed to be that they should focus on coaching and improving skills and keep playing with the size 5 ball. They considered there is still plenty of room for improvement through coaching.

Ball size isn’t much of a problem. Core and arm/shoulder strength can be when combined with lower level coaches from the men’s game that set fields that way they would for men. Eg spread back lines
Just like coaching youth players, if you can get them to stand closer you get better play.
At the pro women’s level the problem reduces and most players will now go through academy programs with S&C development.
With kicking it is simply a time thing and stupidly a bit of an afterthought relying on players doing extras and putting their hands up. -

Excuse my ignorance, I watch next to no women's rugby, but is the women's game having the same issues around head contact as the men's game? I'm not talking about people suffering brain injuries, more in relation to head contact happening multiple times a game and people being penalised seemingly based on fairly random factors such as whether or not someone gets hurt.
I ask because I'm really seeking to understand if head contact is just an unfortunate and inevitable consequence of the game per se, or simply an issue with the men's professional game.

This RWC is being very very reluctant to dish out reds.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say the refs have been told directly to avoid it but they do seem to be looking more for reasons not to.
I get that WR doesn’t want this showcase to grow the game to be marred by reds but some of it is baffling. -

That's the thing right? We see next to zero women's rugby so it's hard to judge.
However, as @Crucial says: the refs are tying themselves in knots to avoid it. Have seen multiple head contacts across a few games that aren't even reviewed. When they are, they seem to lean heavily toward yellow.

Watching Canada v USA now.
Around 45:30 on the clock but nearly a minute until the TMO gets it on the radar.
Blue 12 charging into contact to tackle red 6. Head on head. Not passive. No attempt to lower height into contact. No significant drop from ball carrier.
No mitigation that I can see but ref argues there is not a high level of danger.
Yellow given. Fucking what??

Was clumsy more than reckless or intentional but the ref went down the most bizarre path saying that the tackler “pulled out of it” which supposedly made things better rather than the tackler not taking responsibility to get the player safely to the ground.
Lifted over the shoulder, spun and dropped from height but somehow the tackler wasn’t really at fault? -

Not the rules but certainly seem to be reluctant to use RCs.
I can understand that maybe there’s a feeling to be careful that you get it right as the impact of a red can be bigger in a tournament, but careful seems to tip toward “light” at times.
It isn’t so much the YCs that are puzzling it is the logic being explained. -

Bit dumb from an England coach to make comments like this. Bound to be read by the players and although it probably wont effect the outcome of this particular game, why highlight a 'concern' and plant a seed in the players minds?

Not much bottom there, she's a rake.GSOH at least. All the royals I've met have been a good laugh, apart from the real oldies
