And no Cashmore was not the standout player in the u/20s Bell,Lakai, Springer and Hotham were much more impressive

I would put them all in the same group - Cashmore was really impressive for the U20s. Of course plenty of players have looked like stars at U20s level before and haven't translated.

I really like the Crusaders signing a promising young 10 as the 3rd choice instead of a journeyman like Hickey though. It's what other teams should be doing.

Yeah pretty happy with the signing we need to develop another young First Five.

The problem for the Chiefs is that they have Trask (23) and Reihana (22), as well as Cashmore (20) in the background. I don't see how a full contract would be available.

I've seen a lot of both Kemara and Hotham live from 1st XV level, so it is a little annoying that two locals won't be playing for the Chiefs. But if Taha's development is accelerated by being at the Crusaders that is great for Waikato.

@Crucial Will Heinz will be a big asset for next year. Be great if someone like Tom Taylor came home and picked up a contract.

Tells you a lot about the state of NZ depth when we rejoice about posters at the tail end of their careers returning home to strengthen squads.

We do need to get more experienced posters into the squads.

Robertson expects injured Crusaders Ethan Blackadder (shoulder), Cullen Grace (shoulder) and Jack Goodhue (knee) to be available in time for their round one clash with the Hurricanes in Chrsitchurch on February 19.

The news isn’t so good regarding tighthead prop Oli Jager, who requires neck surgery and is expected to miss the entire campaign.

Sad for Jager. He's already had a few injuries over the years. So the Crusaders will be looking for another TH prop.

Concerning the loose forwards, we may see Blackadder on the openside, with Gardiner on the blindside. At lock, I reckon Gallagher should probably leapfrog Strange in the pecking order.
