Blackwell aside, you can see who's been signed on in the last column re loose forwards. This means after the Lakai announcement, one of Iose, Delany, Gibson, Howden or Laubscher will probably miss out on a contract. Unless of course Prinsep has been released.
You can the see the full team list here - https://all.rugby/club/hurricanes/squad
We'd be mad to keep Princep over any of those guys. Lots of talent and potential.
Someone like Gibson probably has hit his ceiling, but he's already miles better than Princep.
We are stacked though we won't be able to keep them all in coming years.
Yeah this is where trading players with other franchises would come in handy. I feel a lot of teams are stacked in certain areas and then not so much in other areas. Would be good for Kiwi franchises and NZ to spread talent around.
For example (without taking this too seriously) the Hurricanes could trade Tyler Laubscher for Finlay Brewis who is seen as an up and coming prop and is someone that won’t get much game time for the Crusaders considering they are stacked in that department. Whereas, someone like Laubscher would fit into that Crusaders mould quite nicely. (If they needed a No8 obviously).
Good idea. But Tyler looks an excellent prospect . From the little I have seen of him
What about Prinsep instead -
@Canes4life great news. The three I wanted. Higgins Barrett and Lakai. Hopefully Lakai is played at 7; savea at 8 and Delany continues to develop as an 6 option. It could be the best backrow since the Rodders and Jerry days. With quality backups too

We're all assuming of course we pick the pick 23. Who knows what sort of mess we'll make with selections.
But it's as good a group of forwards we've had for a long time.
Numia/Rakete-Stones
Aumua/Coles
Lomax/Franks
Sangster
IWL/BirdA lot of quality there. And guys like Mafileo are handy too.
Back row riches aplenty. I'm not even sure what combo I'd go with. I just hope it doesn't include Princep.
The backs look good too, particularly with JGB out of contention. We don't have any dead weight in the squad.
Really keen to see which wings we pick up for next season. How many gaps do we still need to fill?

No team gets their best 23 out on the paddock very often. Depth is a key to the comp as you need to win the 'hard' games and not fall over in the 'easy' ones while prepping your 23 for the end. Then there are injuries.

@Crucial Does anyone think there's room for a Tom Parsons in this squad. Yeah I know he's 32, but seriously is there a more consistent performer and lineout winner than him. I honestly believe this man would be an asset to any franchise.
He's going overseas isn't he?

It's interesting that both Numia and Rakete-Stones won the awards for both Lions player of the year, and Magpies player of the year. Good to know they are both playing well.

Fixture confirmed for Manawatu next year. Hurricane's CEO Avan Lee also confirms that Howden and Iose will be with the Hurricanes next year but interestingly he didn't mention Tyler Laubscher.
-
Just thinking who we have left to sign assuming all of the below are on board next year: anyone brave enough to fill in the gaps i.e. ?
- Rakete-Stones/Numia
- Aumua/Coles/?
- Lomax/Mafileo/Franks
- Blackwell/Sangster/?
- Walker-Leawere/Bird
- Howden/Prinsep/Delany
- Kirifi/Gibson
- Savea/Flanders/Lakai/Iose
- Perenara/Roigard/Booth
- Morgan/Cameron/?
- Rayasi/?
- Barrett/Higgins
- Umaga-Jensen/Sullivan/Proctor

Isn't Patafilo signed? I thought he was but may be mistaken.
He’s a solid operator, if he’s not signed he will be a good replacement for Goosen.

@Canes4life 9 loose forwards in a squad?

Delany can cover lock. That's the same number of loosies as last year.
-
@Canes4life shame if Tyler goes. But Cane's can't keep them all
-
its a damn shame we have to put up with these shitty as coaches for another season! the only thing that would ruin what the Lions have created for themselves this season. they are such a disappointment! we need a mass clean out!

@BerhamporeNinja What percentage of the Lions team are in the Hurricane?

Off a quick look from the lions squad it's around 60%

It should be more if it wasn’t for those pesky Magpies clogging up the roster. 🎣
