Friends was great for what it was. Millions of fans can't all be totally wrong.
Yes they can. Cos, as George Carlin said, people are boring.
Butter chicken. Appease the masses.

Popular doesn't equal good.
Rolling Stone magazine recently released their Top 100 TV shows. The list includes series and talk shows, and is US-centric. Like all polls, I don't take these too seriously.
The Top 10 was:
- The Sopranos
- The Simpsons
- Breaking Bad
- The Wire
- Fleabag
- Seinfeld
- Mad Men
- Cheers
- Atlanta
- The Mary Tyler Moore Show
No Married with Children in the top 100.
That list can eat all the dicks.

Nick Cave
Pretentious - yes - but not sure it's a particularly hot take... pretty much been his persona, with the Bad Seeds at least,
But - fucking good. I get that some people don't like his music, but...
One of the best live performers I've ever seen
Somehow, he takes one of his "dirges", and transforms it into a stadium anthem. I fucking like his stuff, but still don't understand how he does thatI've seen him live. That was a good nap that one.
Although on @taniwharugby point, to be fair I wouldn't even know who he is if it wasn't for Kylie.

The potential future Mrs MN5 requested some on one of our very first long car rides.
I just about kicked her arse to the curb in the middle of no where right then and there.

Yeah and with BoB at 80, no True Detective and then you see some of the absolute dross in the top 50… credibility, where are you?

@Frank said in The hot takes and unpopular opinions:
I found Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad to have some periods of tedium in them.
It was very clever, but the endless lawyerly yappings of Saul, and the whining teenage victim cries of Jesse Pinkman (How could you do this Walt??????) got a bit boring.
Breaking Bad doesn't edge my top 20 shows of all times, which is not to say I didn't enjoy watching it. However, I think it's very overrated and any list that puts it above The Wire is already null and void for me.
My ranking of their Top 10:
- The Wire
- Sopranos
- Mad Men
- Seinfeld
- Fleabag
- Breaking Bad
- Cheers
- Atlanta
- The Simpsons (Mid 90s would have been top 5).
- Mary Tyler Moore Show (Not seen enough to rate it).

Da Fuq - top 5 for me.

Well thanks for making it clear to really question any suggestions from you.
Sorry to go against the grain of the Fern Manosphere.

@Bovidae Interesting List
The only one I have watched is The Soprano's
I have caught occasional episodes of 2,6 and 10. Aware of their cultural significance but nver got into them. TV isn't really a big part of my life.
3, and 7 I tried to watch but found them all very predictable. Probably as I was watching some time later.
Never even heard of 5 or 9. I struggle to stick with series. Even ones that I have enjoyed I tend not to watch subsequent seasons. I think it must be that you have to invest in the characters and i struggle to do that with real people, let alone celluloid ones.
Polish chicks on the inter-web are obviously different.

Fuckin boring as shit.
I have to agree with you on that one.
I tried, I truly did, and it was with the knowledge that many people raved about it after a number of seasons.
I just couldn't get past the whiny sidekick. -

I just couldn't get past the whiny sidekick.I felt the same, but I'm still prepared to accept that it might be me, not the show - so I'm willing to give it one last crack from the beginning. I gave up Fox/Binge though, didn't hear it's also on Apple now?

Ha. I have really confused myself there. I was thinking I was replaying to a post about Breaking Bad!
The Wire was excellent. Really enjoyed it. I will say though, that it didn't age that well when I tried watching again. The characters and dialogue are still really good though. -

The characters and dialogue are still really good though.I was just about to reply to your post wondering who was the whiny sidekick in The Wire. TBH, if you mean Jesse on BB I actually prefer his as a character to Cranston's character. Also, I've rewatched The Wire a couple of times and thought it's aged well as a period piece.
Well it is the unpopular opinion thread so @Frank's comment fits the bill perfectly.

The Wire is a show I feel like I should love, but it just didn't grab me. As I said though, willing to go again.

1st season of True Detective is the best show of all time - imo
It's certainly up there. Second season not so much.

I’ll forgive you for not seeing Schindler’s list after seeing this post.
Breaking Bad is genius ( if more and more implausible as each season went on, in real life I suspect Walt would have been caught by season 2 )
