Bledisloe 1

i really think I, and maybe others, would have more sympathy if he took any responsibility, if he came out with
"yeah, i was trying to take as long as im allowed, looking at it now i should have kicked is sooner..."
then id be happy to talk about how rare the call is and stuff...but if they're determined to say the ref was 100% wrong and blame him for everything....thats weak

So the Wobs have launched an official complaint about Raynal. Did they launch a complaint against Nick White's dive?
All evidence points to Raynal being correct and justified as well as providing opportunity to stop the call happening.
What do RA think they are going to get from this?Foley now saying the ABs had influence on the ref to change the call.
So he could hear the ABs but not the ref?
Ignoring his own teammates yelling and gesturing to him right in earshot?
I’m starting to get Foley and Foster confused due to a similarity in buck passing traits.None of their story makes any sense. It is my genuinely held belief that Foley is a liar and doesn't have the intestinal fortitude to own up to the error.
And then there's the little issue that the winning try won the match, not the freekick.

The was an article I saw somewhere that pointed out that the kick was never going to be the last play and given how Oz had already cocked up once after taking the lead it was by no way a done deal.
Also pointed out that at the end of the first half, when down to 13, they also pushed the refs patience at a level be dropout and were warned twice before kicking.
Played with fire and got burned.
It wouldn’t surprise me if, after the first half incident, there were further words from the ref which got shrugged off. He certainly pointed out after the game that they now know he will actually whistle if they take the piss. -

@Crucial Not sure if there's any confirmation if it was defying what the ref asked but also the taking of the quick conversion after Kellaway's try from the Foley pass.
I think @booboo watched that on Spidercam and said he clearly told Foley to wait and he was ignored.
Either Foley is deaf as a post or has zero reason to complain if he has acted that arrogantly toward the ref all game. -

Agree with Nige.
Now, can we pan all the referees who can't count 5 seconds after "use it"?
Was it the MARC ELVs back in the day that really cracked down on the halfback clearing it “immediately” after the ref said use it. I thought it was one of the better developments.
Now we are back to snakes and all sorts of foot rolling. It’s a massive blight on the game.

@ACT-Crusader not to mention moving it with thier hand getting it into the sweet spot for kicking/passing, some 9s have thier hands on for several seconds before passing/kicking - me hate!
-
Just had a quick look at the recording to check on the first half time-wasting (line drop) when down to 13.
Raynal waited then said 'we play', waited again and said 'we play' then was about to blow the whistle but the kick got in first.
Did that set a precedent in Foley's mind? Or was that Raynal letting them get away with one but then set his mind that he wouldn't do so again?
I reckon the second.

It's comical when you watch it, ref puts his hand up 3x to signal him to wait, including a more sudden movement as he starts to move forward. Foley only takes 2 steps back also, it's miles from his regular set-up.
Clever from Foley I guess. Would have been interesting if he'd missed it, he would probably have claimed the ref put him off 😁

Another point being Raynal could still have referred it in accordance with the TMO protocol.

It was pretty evident at the ground too the way Foley was hurrying and even when Raynal intervened, there was nothing going to stop Foley from kicking. Laws, game feel, mabo, who knows. But the points counted an that's all that matters in the end....just like that final Jordie try
It is comical, all of this stuff, because it further highlights the things wrong with the current state of the game in my view. I love rugby but currently there is more wrong with the top game than right.
Listening to Gerard Whateley this morning, someone I respect as a commentator and caller, and general sports lover, struggle to understand what is happening in the game (not just the Foley incident). He's a smart fella and readily admitted that it's one sport that he has struggled with over the years, was quite interesting.

im sure i have seen refs stand in front of the kicker to prevent them kicking it

Yeah! They'll basically just stand on the ball, I've even seen them just tap it off the tee with their foot. Why wouldn't he have called time off anyway?

It's funny, watching this weekend's games I was delighted to see the halfbacks playing it back with their feet instead of their hands.

He was just about to blow, bringing the whistle to his lips and Foley kicked. Gallic shrug and he carries on. Obviously doesn't know that he can still go back and check with TMO

Of course. The QCs (KCs) can’t possibly let things interfere with their normal billable hours
