Josh Dickson would only be 28 in 2023.
I thought he was older than that. Seems like he has been around for ages.

Geez really? I only remember him for like 3 or 4 seasons.
edit: so yeah 5 years at the highlanders. Another Aussie though.

Justin Sangster from Bay of Plenty, Isaia Walker-Leawere from the Hawkes Bay

I wouldn't be surprised if my muddled brain has him confused with someone else from years ago. All the Highlander locks look the same to me.

Remembered a story about Sam Darry moving to Auckland and Steve Hansen saying ‘congratulations, you’ve just signed a future all black captain’. Anyone else recall this?
Sam Darry's need to be bigger. String-bean locks don't cut it nowadays.

Wouldn't play for the Canes would they?

Of course, both have had great seasons provincially aswell as for the Canes. Walker-Leawere in particular brings plenty of size and mobility which is needed at international level.

Big fan of Walker-Leawere. Just needs some game time for the Canes without the useless Blackwell
Future lock for me:
S Barrett
T Vaii
J Lord
I Walker-Leawere
S Darry -

Darry's name popping up a few times now. What's with that? Anytime I've seen him, he seems to have less impact than Blackwell and is more stringbean than Lord.
He's 22 nad growing into his frame. I have no idea if he'll step up or not; not sure the love he's getting. Seems a good player, but for me way too soon to anoint him as a future AB lock. Needs to prove himself at Super level first

I think the early comments were based on potential and attitude rather than physical prowess. I guess he stood out as someone with a great work ethic and mental toughness along with some physical attributes and 'smarts'.
It might take a while to come together or it may never happen but there are times that coaches can see a 'package' forming. -

For me, that applies to Fabian Holland, too. He seems a good prospect, but didn't really stand out for the NZ U20s, this year.

It’s interesting that we all knew that our locks are getting old and tired. They can play one good game then average in the other. Yet Foster is playing the safe but perilous route, because his back is against the wall (thanks @Victor-Meldrew ), and has not attempted to blood others. We are quick to lay the blame on our rookies but the pack as a whole has been inconsistent and old, especially the locks.
Whitelock wasn’t great last test but the test against the Argies everyone’s was singing his praises. Retallick likewise. While this is not a Foster thread he is at the center of decision making and I would imagine if he was the next coach he would not no how the make changes at lock beyond what we have.
So Whitelock and Retallick to see us through to 2027.
