Well whoopie fukin kayay a total of 2 bronze medals. Wow. About right for the state of NZ rugby currently. Maybe we should look at the cycling coaches to replace Foster.

The BF7s won the Olympic gold which is much more prestigious than a CG gold.

Give it a rest. It’s sevens. You can end up out of the semis on one call or bounce of ball. Draw also plays a huge part.
A different draw and we may be in the final. Not saying we would win it but at least acknowledge the nature of the sport before flying in with the negativity

@Crucial yep realise that. It is still galling to lose both matches in the manner that we did. We should have been much much better. The men chucked away a 14--0 lead. The women kept making silly errors. Gilbert Enoka's red-heads v blue-heads comes to mind.

And we’ve seen both teams reverse that situation to the other team before as well. Very easy for pressure to force mistakes in this game.
It’s why I like watching it. Nothing’s a given and a shift in fortunes can occur suddenly.
I get your point but I’m also getting a bit sick of the lack of reality that in both Sevens and XVs we may have been the pacesetters for a while but the playing field has levelled and we can’t expect to win all the time whether from skills, tactics or pressure.
Until there’s another change in the game and we take early advantage by adapting faster I can see this continuing for some time.

Great win for our Blitse. They have been very good this tournament and Powell will be a big asset for the Sharks

@MiketheSnow you'll see a few of them in the URC. Angelo Davids played CC but he is waiting behind the Stormers speedster.

On the long hair thing: tbh it is like jumping into a tackle for me i.e. if you leave your hair out, you're asking for an infringement.

You're reducing the tackle area through an unskilled means. Mens or womens - put it up.

Agree. It would have been a huge ballsy call for a PT. We know that Portia would have likely scored but the ref can’t take the abilities of the player into account.

Still 10m out and cover defender not far away. Hard to make that call in a split second either way

I think the cover had already over-run and would have been on the wrong foot but yeah, would have been called harsh if given.

Bronze for both is not unreasonable, considering how they were prevented from playing on the sevens circuit most of the last two years, while their opponents generally played more. Well done players and coaches.

Liking what I saw from Joe Webber and Leroy Carter as midfield creators. Think Caleb Tangitau needs to develop a kick and chase instead of surrendering the ball at the sideline, but looks very promising. Some good talent coming through.

In the women's comp, all medal winners lost one game. It just so happens that Australia's loss was the least significant of the three.

Best team in the comp by far. Played with minimal errors and maintained composure for longer periods.

In the NFL you're allowed to tackle someone by grabbing their hair if it hangs outside the helmet.
