I wonder how, if at all, this little situation may affect Marshall's Sky position

    We can only hope

So the collateral damage might continue to rise, but Foster and Assistants so far all still remain in place. Neato.

    Best possible outcome.

What I'd forgotten was how strong that side was

This was pretty much the run on side until the last two tests when Hart decided to play spin the selectorial wheel

    Dowd
    Oliver
    Brown
    Jones
    Brooke
    Jones
    Kronfeld
    Randell
    Marshall
    Mehrtens / Spencer
    Lomu
    Little
    Mayerhofler
    Wilson
    Cullen

A few were past their best but nevertheless.....

You look at that tight five, with some very good players who needed to be put out to pasture with the 1999 WC coming and it rings with what is happening today. The 1999 WC squad had a bunch of new tighties, will the current coaches pull the trigger on some of these current guys?

Obviously a massive storm in a teacup but it sadly captures what we've been reduced to. 2015 might as well have been 50 years ago.

    Marshall is mouthy? I'm shocked.
A loose forward reacts to a mouthy halfback? Been happening since forever.
A sober guy steps in to stop a mate who has been drinking doing something he may regret? Never seen that one before either.

    Whoopde doo!

@gt12 I'd argue that at that time there was only Brooke R that was pushing it - and Hart still wanted him as captain and also Waltza. Iceman as well was probably past it. The rest were close to their prime and all decent or better AB's except for journeyman Mark.

Kamo was getting on but still our best lock in 99 - when Hart picked him.

    A couple of questions.

This is at the stadium right? How drunk are you allowed to get while still technically at work and not get in trouble with your employers?

How are we supposed to take anything he says about selection regarding Bower, Clarke or the Ioanes seriously after this sort of incident?

How many times has this sort of thing happened with Marshall?

Must be embarassing for his wife there holding his hand.

Wish I could hear what is being said, looks like Marshall being gobby, Clarke and Bower telling him to go, Akira doesn't seem to be held back. looks like older ones saying ignore hin or something. Is that at Stadium, looks a bit like getting off bus at hotel?

As much as Marshall is a terrible commentator and looks pissed that is a very shit look for Akira having to be held back from having an argument with an AB great by half a dozen team mates.

Bower and Clarke pretty clearly trying to keep Marshall back rather than arguing with him.

NZ rugby in a serious meltdown right now and wouldn’t be surprised if more comes from this incident.

Held back?! Looks like they’re all about to jump in the van and he wants to throw in one final “fuck off you egg” before hitting the road. Hardly being restrained by his team mates there

Haha bullshit. There are four guys there trying to block/hold back Akira from carrying on the argument, just like there are two blocking/holding back Marshall.

No body knows what was said or what started it.
But a current All Black getting into a public altercation with an ex All Black is an extremely bad look, even if the ex AB is pissed. Especially given the context of the ABs right now.

In a world full of change and uncertainty, it has been nice just to confirm one universal law. Once a halfback, always a halfback.

Any comment from Sky about a high profile commentator, pissed out of his head getting into an argument with a high profile employee of one of thier significant "business partners'

Sure the optics ain't great for anyone looking at it as a way to point fingers at the ABs but the person who looks the worst seems to be copping the least from what I've seen....

What a dick lol, I half wish Akira had clocked him to teach him a lesson, but then we wouldn't have him for SA.

He may be a dick and drunk but at least someone who wore the Black jersey is giving it to the players for a few shit years of bringing the AB jersey down to the level it is now..There must be a lot of ex AB's upset at what is happening to the legacy they helped build.

Coming from the 1998 AB halfback who lost 5 in a row and the Bledisloe.

It’s easy to forget the ab team around that time had its own shit moments , particularly against the aussies

A lot of parallels between the two situations actually: young guys like Marshall and Mehrts come into a successful team built by senior guys like Fitzpatrick, Brooke etc who had done it tough in the previous years. Early years in the team are marked by domination, some firsts (SA in 96) and just generally throwing it around and scoring lots of tries and collecting a lot of Ws. As soon as those senior guys have gone, and now it's Marshall & Co's time to lead the team, the whole things falls in a complete heap, despite there being a lot of talent as well as domestic domination by the Crusaders, and we end up with 98, 99 and 5 years of no Bledisloe.

In short, maybe Marshy was trying to show empathy?

You call that an "altercation"?! Are you part of the "words are literal violence" generation?

Point of order, vocab nazi here, an altercation is defined as a noisy argument, often carried out in public.

Seems to fit the bill here?
