@Bones cos Akira is a 6, DP plays more like a 7, in the way we seem to play, or are trying, and last week 3 7s worked out how well?

Then Vaai as back up lock, IMO offers more than PT.

Edit...sorry, thought your "Logic?" Part was what was my logic, as opposed to THE logical choice.

Players do get better the longer they haven’t played, don’t they 😀

Because I remember some absolute shanks off the side of the boot from Nonu. He had a decent grubber game but he hardly had to use it.

The way the ABs used to set up was to have DC and our fullback or wing (eg Mils, Dagg, Bender, Jane, Scott Hamilton 😉) stationed on either side of the ruck or if it was out wide, one would be positioned deep and the other flat.

@gt12 yeah, it still doesn't explain the hang up on RTS' kicking ability - again probably something he wasn't required to do at the Blues. Did he ever field kick for the warriors? I see he had a 50% goal kicking career....with 1 from 2 attempts.

He wasn’t a designated kicker but he did kick for the Warriors, but that was because someone like Shaun Johnson or one of the other eggs forgot it was 5th tackle and a hospital pass gets thrown back to RTS to just get something off….

That sounds about spot on for this years ABs!

Oh I remember the same from Carter 😉

I have zero collection of Hamilton ever doing it though. BBFAPABSH

    FABSH was a gun!

Although I do wish we had access to the Fern thread in the lead up to that Bok test match in 2006 that Scotty played. I think there were several meltdowns:

Hamilton picked again; no power winger (Howlett was the other wing with Scotty); Mils at centre; Tuitupo had several detractors; Thorne was back in the side at blindside; Tialata starting; Toeava on the bench

Ahhh the good old days when we on the Fern would whinge, moan and whinge some more - but we would still win 😎

I could stomach losing if we played well and were beaten by a better team.

If he’s out Ireland will really attack our lineout. I hope they bring Vaai and not PT into the 23.

    Couldn't agree more.

Just a reminder the Raeburn Shield is on the line again in this one having traded places between teams after Ireland bought it into the series.

Also pumped to have got coverage into the UK Telegraph which is a great result.

Scott Barrett is thought to be in serious doubt for the All Blacks' deciding third test against Ireland in Wellington on Saturday.

Barrett may yet play through the pain but, if he is ruled out, Blues loose forward Akira Ioane would be promoted to start at blindside and Chiefs lock Tupou Vaa'i, who returned from Covid this week, is expected to come onto the bench to provide cover for Sam Whitelock and Brodie Retallick.

    That sounds sensible.

I've read that they won't but we just might not score as many.
