Origin 2022

The mind boggles thinking about if we saw what happened tonight in a rugby match:
The biff - 2 x RCs
The headlock - 1 x RC
The DCE tackle on Cleary - 1 x YC
The first head clash - 1 x YCYuck
-
Fuck off Freddie you got the rub from the ref for thr first half
And you got outcoached by a guy on his first job.
-
@mariner4life the brains trust for Qld - Slater, Smith, JT, Langer, Josh Hannay and I saw Miles in there too.
Far superior to the Blues.
-
Didn't go to bed at half time. That tells you everything. Terrific match. As much as it pains me to say it, that game shat on anything union has produced for a while.
-
One of the best games of rugby I have seen in a long time. And unfortunately better than anything union has produced for a looooooong time
Last game I have seen to be anything like as good as that was the 2016 Cowboys vs Broncos final.
-
My personal player ratings:
Queensland:
- Ponga - deserved motm 9.5
- Cobbo - unfortunately knocked out NA
- Gagai - poor game 4.5

- Deaden - solid debut, nearly created a try 7.5
- DCE - controlled team well 8
- Collins unfortunately knocked out NA
- Hunt - brilliant game 9

I think the amount of people on my FB feed who’ve all of a sudden become Queenslanders after 10 years of hibernating says it all.
The masses love a bandwagon.

now that the emotion has settled a bit (i don't actually think Klein was cheating, i just got Cheese carried away)
What a fucking game. It has absolutely everything and this is why State of Origin rates so friggen highly. Amazing viewing, speed, aggression, guts, some high skill, and the 2nd half was as tense as you will see.
What the fuck was that start? 3 guys out in side the first 4 sets? And all tacklers, not tackled players. Guys were flying in to contact, everyone was well up for it.
Qld kicked off and used that advantage to its full scope, keeping NSW down their end. The first try was coming for a while, and so good it was a great play by a kid on debut (and a sexy angle from Holmes).
But all that did was fire up NSW, and they just ground Qld out of the game. The Penrith Pressure ramped up, they won the territory battle, Qld started making errors, the defense got disjointed, and NSW took complete control. Tedesco looked unplayable, NSW won what felt like every collision, and Qld were hanging on by their fingertips. And then two moments back to back. A legit obstruction penalty for some relief. And then Tupou drops a really good high kick. Grant orchestrates a sneaky, pretty lucky try, and somehow Qld go in to the sheds only 2 down.
And that's where the good stuff happens. Recent QLd legends Slater, Smith, JT, Miles get to give their little "Qld Spirit" speech. And you can bet it was Cam Smith telling DCE about the early kicks, he made a career out of it.
The 2nd half was a different game. Qld looked dangerous now, Ponga pushing through the middle was creating breaks or half breaks. DCE kicked them to death. The Qld forwards kept turning up right were they needed to be. And they squeezed the life out of NSW, who suddenly started to make errors. Ponga scores finally. A few tries are (rightfully) disallowed. Hunt 40/20s and NSW start to look done. And yet all the while NSW still look like they can make a break right up until Hunt snatches the kick out of the air and runs 50m to win the game.
Qld spine were unreal. Qld forwards battled hard in that 2nd half, Tino, Arrow and carrigan especially. That's am incredible win with 15 against a good NSW side, roared home by a great crowd.
That's an Origin night for sure.

also, as if it couldn't get any better
the absolute salt from Joey Johns in the post-game was just delicious.
-
Brilliant game and doesn't surprise me that they team with the better kicking strategy got up in the end. Ring any bells?, well we know Ardie would have been watching, i just hope like fuck he passed on that message
Personally thought Ponga probably should have got MoM and if NSW had sneaked in Tedesco. Both had whales of games.
Interestingly fighters only got fines, Tino got two fines, one for head lock and one for high shot.. everyone able to play..lol
Just wow though, fast, furious, some outrageous skill, brainfarts and serious emotion. That was some seriously fun product to watch

That game looked like it was being sponsored by the Early Onset Dementia clinic. Great game but you wonder how long it can keep being played in that way due to future lawsuits.
this post makes me sad

@bayimports with all the passion, emotion and occasion - Suncorp, what a stadium and atmosphere - it really was the simple things done well that set it up for Qld. The Blues couldn’t get quick play of the balls, credit Qld forwards.
No space for a very good Blues halves combination and despite their immense talent were made to look ordinary.
Field position, field position, field position.
Mistakes and pressure. That Tupou dropped catch was a weird one. Where he positioned himself it was as if he didn’t really want to catch as he didn’t move his body into line.
Brilliant game changing plays. 40/20, the one on one strip and Hunt try
-
@ACT-Crusader pressure on the NSW halves was one thing, but the clear strategy and execution of the QLD kicking game, was second to none. NSW were always coming out of trouble for large parts of the second half with no answer (except errors from the pressure).
but I entirely agree with everything else!

that's coaching
Qld had what, 3? of the greatest players of the modern era to sort shit out.
Two of them learned about coaching from a details guy like Bellamy.
Whereas Freddie seems like a "vibe and mabo" type coach, so NSW changed nothing, just seemed to wait for the first half routine to kick back in. And when it didn't the players on the field did nothing until it was all too late.

yeah, I agree entirely, execution in that environment is practice though. This part amazes me the ABs aren't doing this as part of core routines daily (and if they are, its not showing!)
Freddy can't coach (well at least tactically), there is a key reason he failed at the roosters of all places. However is is one NSW favorite sons, blah blah
doesnt make you part of one of leagues greatest brains trust like Qld have available though
