Australia v England - 1st Test
-
I got back from the AB test in time to watch the 2nd half live. By the comments here sitting in a car was more fun than watching the 1st half. Both coaches will need to make some changes for test 2, and that might decide the outcome if they pick the right players (or not).

The Brit/English press gleefully getting the knife in!

Gah! What a Shiloh Pitt. Well done to Aus for overcoming the injuries and the red card. Showed some real ticker and great accuracy during the ten minute spell that won the game.
Smith will have many better games than that but very few that are worse. Our breakdown work and spoiling fell off dramatically when Curry was subbed. Ludlam carried well but we lost that speed and expertise that a genuine 7 brings. Who’d have thought it? Not Eddie it seems. Centre pairing just not working either, certainly not within Eddie’s new attacking structure. However, I think that this might just be the turning point. So much so I reckon we might just take this series 2-1.

I couldn’t give a flying fuck if you all think it was a bad game.
We haven’t beaten the Poms since 2015. More than that, we haven’t gotten close to beating the Pons since 2015.
We lost Quade in the warmup, then lost Banks, AAA and Swain inside the first half.
And we FUCKEN WON. By rolling straight over the top of them.
So it might have been ugly but I’m grinning from ear to ear today, no matter what all of you miserable Kiwi bastards think.
10/10 game. A classic for the ages.

Great post.
It’s a fucking cliche, but its really true for me -
I support two teams, the All Blacks and anyone playing England.I only saw the second half, but I really enjoyed it.
Btw, they are followed by anyone playing you fluffybunnies, but those fluffybunnies are worse.

You should see how conflicted us Kiwis used to get when your cricket boys played Pakistan...

It was a bad game from England, not so sure for Oz. Showed great heart to keep in the game and really roll over the top of England. Second half they were great.
Unbelievably stupid red card though.

Eddie has done a cracking job making the team far less than the sum of their parts.
They really do have some cracking players.
But god they are awful.
this is standard Eddie Jones though isn't it? i feel like you hire him for 3 years maximum.

Yep. Good old "Shelf Life" Jones.
Everyone here remembers the RWC2003 semi-final. Nobody thinks about his almost religious determination to ignore or even devolve our scrum.

Yep, I'm not sure what more people expect of Eddie? He specialises in one-off victories against the All Blacks, and he's already delivered that so I don't think he has much more to offer England now. Time for him to move to the next team that wants a famous win against us.

Because it's all about you
In his defence: Jones took a failed RWC2015 Test team and turned them around in pretty short order, which is his specialty. Grand Slam, two other 6N titles, undefeated in a calendar year. RWC final and a few wins on the trot against us as well.
You could easily say he took the massive resources of RFU and just pointed it in the right direction, but that clearly wasn't as easy as first thought because England have underperformed so massively overall when you look at their results. The problem with having a huge resource base is sometimes too many choices. Particularly when some of the talent in your local comp is foreign.
His main issue is stagnation. It happened nearly everywhere he went - and really your head coach should be 3-4 years at most IMHO.

And we're into our second decade with basically the same coach

There's a view which says Eddie is great at taking on a team on the cusp and riding to glory on the back of his predecessors hard work.

He's had plenty of quality players to pick from but just seems incapable of developing them much once they come into his squad. Often he has the opposite effect which is worse than stagnation.
