Warburton played very well I thought but also look at turnovers - we seemed to get nearer to parity at end - don't know if that was bench or superior fitness.

The bench is clearly picked to provide speed and impact

- Charlie F

- Beaudy

- TJ

- Patty T

- Ardie

these guys are not coming on to provide a steadying hand. They are there to destroy already damaged lungs.
-

Despite his errors Naholo is a match winner. Probably needed to get the wings more involved running off Crudens shoulders as the Welsh closed off passes out to the centers with the rush defence. This forced Cruden to kick a little more than normal. Of course the solution is running the forwards up the guts so they are on the back foot more which we were a little more successful and committed to in the second half. I hope that Ardie learns that at the international level he will need more support with his forward running so he is not isolated. I think our second five needs to take on the line more to set up second phase ball and keep their inside backs honest. Rather than bring in Dagg would like to see Barrett at FB for a full game.

-

yep, our bench did exactly what it is selected for, and has done for many years now.

We have impact players for a reason, and they invariably make a positive impact when they come on.
-

This may have been mentioned earlier as I haven't read the whole thread yet. What was with Marshall's Phil Gould wannabe speech in the buildup? Cringeworthy.

I only use the alternative commentary when TJ is commentating.

That was ghastly. Then followed by the extreme close ups of Goldie, Cullen and JK as they talked. Unwatchable WTFuckery.
-

Yup the prematch speeches and general commentary were a little bit more than stodgy. And Marshall has transmogrified from bogan to corporate bogan.

Notable Points from the test:

Julian Savea may not play many more tests if he continues to play like he did last night.

Coles had a bad game but he is still head and shoulders over any other hooker in N.Z. His biggest work on is his hot head.

Crotty does nothing for me. He is just a journeyman and never looked like breaking the line. Bring back SBW asap.

Savea vs Cane:

Its not a question of if its more a question of when Ardie Savea takes Canes jersey. When Ardie gets comfortable on the test scene Hansen will run out of excuses to back up Cane and will be forced to give over the Jersey to the Welington wonder kid. (Dont get too offended Chiefs fans).

Read was strong and it is a welcome site seeing him slowley getting back to his best form.

Changes I would make for next game: Ngatai for Crotty, Whitelock for Romano, Savea for Cane. -

The refereeing of Barnes made it very tricky to get ruck turnovers - a few times players had hands on the ball for a while but Barnes let the attacking team clear them out. I thought Cane went OK, he and Kaino were certainly doing the dirty work up front.

A Savea could be groomed as a super sub like Barrett for a while, a real handful for tiring defences.
-

Turns out Hansen, Smith and Fox are have all been swayed by the fern and are biased against the second coming of christ. What heathens! How dare they fail to recognise genius when they see it. I never knew they were making excuses to pick an inferior player, but the scales have fallen from my eyes.
-

Naholos running game reminds me of Sivi , with a heap more power in contact added in ,

The errors need to be ironed out though .
-

As the famous Joker quote goes "why so serious" I am obviously trying to wind you guys up. Its way to easy. There is obviously not much going on in Chiefs land for you to take that bait.

My real view on the whole Ardie vs Cane situation is that Cane has rightly deserved his crack at the no 7 jersey and for now I am happy with Savea providing that impact off the bench. Cane will only grow as a leader and a one two punch of Cane and Savea moving forward is the perfect balance to exhaust our opposition. One day Ardie may get his shot starting on a regular basis but for now he is in a great position to learn from the likes of Kaino, Cane and Read to be a more rounded player.

I have no doubt though that Ardie will be in the All Blacks environment for a very long time. -

I heard an interview with Foxy on radio and he was asked about Cane vs Savea ,

And he said( dont quote me word for word) something like , they both have plenty to offer in the 23 , Cane has more to offer at the start of a game and Savea has more to offer in the closing stages of a game at this stage we believe , that doesnt mean Ardie will never be seen as a starter , but for now , we think that role suits him .
-

You're spot on mate, I listened to the interview also and was about to post the same.

Wonder if canes4life was in the wind up with the crotty is a journeyman part also? I'm not gonna bite after the dressing down I got last time -
I wasnt winding up on that part. Crotty is a journeyman enough said.

Obviously? The Savea instead of Cane view appears to be pretty widespread in the great land of the interweb, are they all just trying to wind us up?
-

Two big and immediate work-ons for him - (i) get a decent haircut - he looks like a toilet brush; and (ii) kick his brother's ass!
-

That's the thing. Even if Ardie becomes a better player than Sam Cane, Ardie is still going to be the better bench player. Even if Ardie is slightly better than Cane, you could still start Cane because Ardie is so good off the bench. Of course, I expect the All Blacks to play both at the same time at some point.
-

Funny story he was saying his Girlfriends site is not the best so he grew his hair like that so she could spot him on the field.

Ur right though he needs to give his brother a pep talk. The bus has a few flat tyres at the moment. -

I think we need Alex Fidow in there to shore up the scrum. -

Marshall is a fucken moron. I really admired him as a player cos he got the most out of his abilities but if I initially thought his commentary sucked it pales in comparison to that horrific Phil Gould impersonation. Awful, awful, AWFUL. Nisbo was his usual dreary self.....

JK, Cully and Goldie were only a notch above with their bullshit afterwards......excellent players all four but fuck that made for bad TV. The latter two look older than JK as well !

ABs blew out a few cobwebs, shit that Beaden Barrett has some pace huh ? can't be genetic cos I remember his old man being an honest toiler rather than a speedster in his playing days but doesn't seem right that a skinny white bloke can move like that. Outstanding tackle on Wales best back George North too. Thank god I had Marshall to remind me that "that tackle had to be made".

Awesome seeing Ardie "House Party" Savea get on the field too. Exciting times in store for him, gotta imagine he'll get a start at some stage this series.
