    Still got some work ons though

    I haven't noticed anything that glaringly obvious this season to make that a required addition to any line selecting him, what have I missed?

    @Crucial I'll be surprised if they pick both Christie and Fakatava and I wouldn't if I was Fozzie.

    Why not?

    Because neither have played in a big test before. So what happens if we lose the first test AND Christie happens to shit the bed coming off the bench?

    Or, we lose the first test AND Nuggie gets injured?

    Fozzie's backed into a corner where he's got a must win second test and his fallback is basically the work experience kid.

    I reckon he'll take at least one of TJ or Weber, because they've proved they can play at that level.

    Pick one of the young guys and give him a run in the third test if we're up (or down) 2-0.

    I get the logic but isn’t this thinking what we are critical of Foster about?
    Pick the players in form. If that’s Weber then pick Weber. If it’s Christie pick Christie. Fakatava has shown his potential and shows no signs that he will fold if he goes up a level. He needs a 30 minute spell against Ireland to see what we have.

    @Bones He's by far the best available option. His distribution is a work on.

    @Crucial Who is we? πŸ™‚

    I don't subscribe to just picking the form players and discarding experience that has yet to run its course.

    I don't have any real issues with Fozzie's squad selections to date - I think they've been pretty bang on. A few of his match day XVs haven't been.

    Nah, it's that you are pushing the case for a guy who has had a ton of chances (four fuckin years in the ABs) at test level and has been 100% reliable in failing to deliver.

    just to be clear; anyone who thinks the All Blacks are better served by Rieko Ioane on the wing rather than centre is a fucking moron

    absolutely all of this. Reiko at 13 is already our most dangerous weapon

    Fuck could you imagine him playing 13 outside Nonu?

    I just came

    If Smith is the no.1 halfback until next year's RWC, surely you want to look at the options for the bench halfback now? Is it Christie? Is it Fakatava? Or TJP/Weber? One of TJP or Weber can play Ireland for the Māori so I would hope that these 3 tests are used for that purpose. Otherwise, it's really only the Argentinean tests where the squad tends to be rotated.

    @Bovidae Exactly!!!

    I'd be tempted to make TJ the captain of the Maori and reassure him he's not out of the picture. Pick Weber and Christie and give Fakatava an apprenticeship.

    Fakatava has to be played as early as possible. (as reserve to Smith)
    Fuck some people on here are too conservative.

    Like all of it though? What's he lacking in that area? A stat often thrown out about him is him having the last pass before a try is scored, so he must be distributing pretty damn well in some capacity? Or he's hungus but lazy 😁

    Jordie, Jordan and Reece

    No power-wing, no thanks.

    I’d still prefer Ioane on the wing but it looks as if centre is his gig.

    Why on earth would you want the best centre in New Zealand to play on the wing?

    His impact on the wing at test level speaks for itself.

    Tana was a pretty good winger too. What a ridiculous argument. Players evolve and he's clearly the best centre in New Zealand. By an order of magnitude.

    Instead let's select obviously inferior players and then complain Rieko's at fault for not looking for work because the donkeys inside him can't get him the ball often enough.

    Feel free to call me a moron, and I'm perfectly happy to have him at centre (and I've never complained when the ball hasn't gone his way like in some test matches, in fact I think I've highlight when they haven't fed the ball to him), I just think with a fit (and obviously in form) ALB at centre feeding him the ball in space out wide that he's a bloody weapon there as well.

    I see that as a different argument. That if there were a compelling alternative such as a fit and in form ALB, he could play centre and Rieko on the wing, but the issue is Rieko at centre and the best form left winger is better than the alternative.

    Christ - you're going to draw me into "Ioane Wars". πŸ™‚

    In a way, all of it is a work on. I don't think he's a world class distributor - probably runs too far too often. Not the most accurate passer.

    For those backing ALB, I think this is where his edge lies.

    Not having a go! I just don't see what you see in that regard. Both his short and long passing game seem pretty accurate to me, so yeah just wondering what I'm not seeing.

    I'm not sold that in 2022 Rieko is a better winger than centre.

    Rieko's not the best under the high ball (he's decent at it but he's had some issues too) and he's getting better and better at centre.

    @Bones No worries.

    I'm just conscious that whatever you say about the Ioanes on this board - or their competitors - likely gets blown out of all proportion. πŸ™‚

    I still hate the Ioanes because I once commented that Akira seemed a bit slow chasing in defence and pondered if he was carrying an injury.

    No idea what you're talking about.

    Yeah, I only suggest players who have gone well this year,are worth looking at. Guess if we follow your advice we will pick players on past performances, and not if they still on form.
    But as I sadi we all have different ways at looking at it, so no probs.
