This has to be a troll, MJ doesn't even make the bench and some dude from Namibia is in there.

Seems to have kicked off a thread though so that's all good.

Try watching jac burger and you will see why I added him. Who would you have over johnson?

We've all seen Burger. He's pretty good in a shit team, I'd say at least ten blokes across just the Tri nations teams who could outplay him with one hand tied behind their backs.

He’s not even the best Burger to play in the 6 jersey

    Who's Andy ripley

Part of an England team that beat NZ in NZ & Sth Africa in Sth Africa. Also part of the 1974 Lions. Great player.

Also good in a very corny 70's/80's TV sports show called "Superstars". A very good all round athlete.

The England team of that period was outstanding. The likes of John Pullen & Bill Beaumont were some of England's best-ever players

Hmm. Not sure I quite agree. We did have some of our greats playing then, but also some pretty ordinary journeymen getting quite a few caps. Add in a revolving door selection policy, unfathomable coaching and in the main our team was shite for ten years or more. We had one or two stand out games but they were rare.

On the whole I’d say somewhat less than the sum of their parts.

I tend to agree with you - I know which one I would pay the most to see play. However Merhtens suited the All Blacks way of playing (at that time) much more so than Larkham would have, and of course vice-versa. In a similar way that Andrew suited England's way of playing in the 90's much more than Barnes, though most would say Barnes was the better player.

You're right. For some reason I thought England were really successful between 72-75, but their 5N's record was actually shite. Great results on tour though

I can never forgive the great Bill McLaren for naming Rob Andrew as his all time greatest 10.

Yeah that's a bit of a stretch. Andrew was actually a much better player than his England performances would suggest. The trouble with him though is that he is establishment through and through. He would happily play to a game plan that was negative, that was against many of our strengths and that was a world away of why he probably played rugby in the first place. That is why he got a shed load of caps and Stuart Barnes got a handful. It's probably also the reason that he got prestigious jobs within the RFU despite being singularly unsuitable for them.

I always rated Rory Underwood for the simple reason he scored bags of tries outside of Guscott & Andrew.... Jeez, he was a great finisher.

S’funny but Rory rarely gets mentioned in the discussion about England’s greatest wingers, recency bias I guess, but he was a gun winger for sure.

Really, I'd have thought he'd be the first wing on the team sheet? Or Alexander Oblensky. 😉

PS I'm thinking picking Burger is the equivalent of picking Parisse ...

Dito previous coment. Have you actually watched him?

Was he a standout in the competitive club games? The sort of player everyone said his performances for the Bulls meant South Africa was missing out?

@ACT-Crusader I'd swap Ralph for Berryman.

    You would, Mr North Auckland…😉

Love Stormin, but Ralph’s Saders record was pretty phenomenal in terms of longevity and try scoring.

Will Jordan over Gear and it's not close. Sevu over Vuni as well.

Gear’s strike rate for us was right up there, 30 tries. Jordan is on the right trajectory to get past that but not quite there yet.

Yeah, nah. Lomu, Cullen and Tana didn’t score all those tries without Mertz running that cutter 😎

According to Wikipedia he's already past it. 35 tries from 43 appearances compared to Rico's 30 from 40.

Sevu just broke the overall Super record for fastest to 40 tries and is 43 from 53, so Will is on track to take that off him. By the end of this season would be nice. 🙂

That amount of tries in a losing performance should be entertaining.

lol, as a Chiefs guy this sort of chat is hilarious "oh, which multiple-title winning player should i leave out?" "which absolute international superstar can't get a gig?"

we are the heartland championship of Super Rugby. Our overall record is just so deeply average. Our "hall of fame" looks like a "Rugby Battlers" facebook page.

    Sona Taumalolo
    Hika Elliot
    Ben Tameifuna
    Keith Robinson
    Jonno Gibbes
    Wayne Ormond
    Marty Holah
    Liam Messam
    Rhys Duggan
    Stephen Donald
    Sitiveni Sivivatu
    Walter Little
    Richard Kahui
    Lelia Masaga
    Todd Miller

Bench is too hard. Try picking props FFS? Would definitely have Luaki and Cruden on it though.

they left in their primes so fuck 'em

Yes i know Retallick was a sabbatical but that is arguably worse consider he then proceeded to come back and suck

i told you, these things are way more interesting when you go heart over head
