Definitely liking the looks of Smith, Beauden, Clarke, RTS, Rieko, Jordan, Jordie at this stage
Not quite. Smith, BB, CC, Jordie, Reiko, Reece and Jordan for me.
RTS in the squad for sure but not doing enough yet to be a test starter.
-
Can we shelve the Jordie at 12 idea for Ireland?
We simply don’t have time to adjust and why move last years best player and cause change everywhere else.
Move him there at the 60 minute mark after someone else has gone hard. That way either Reece or Clarke can be the impact reserve. -
@Crucial why? He looks more than capable of making the step up and it makes sense to get him in there while his bro’s at ten for familiarity.
It’s anyones guess what Foster is going to do anyway. He’s not innovative so I’m sure he will just keep Havili.

Yawn, yawn. Fozzies an idiot. Jordie will save our bacon.....
I've explained why not in my post.
We are up cold against a strong team.
Trying to fix one problem by taking strength from elsewhere is never a great idea.
'Playing alongside his brother?' - I thought he was a big boy now. Have they ever played 10/12 together before that would be some kind of advantage?
Starting him at 15 puts our best, proven player in that position AND allows a shift to 12 to mix things up later in the game. Also makes room for either of Clarke/ Reece on the bench for impact whereas otherwise we need a midfielder on the bench. -

Although it's not like he's inexperienced. This isn't an Ice situation

@Crucial lol we don’t have a proven player at 12 apart from maybe Goodhue but will he really be ready for Ireland after his long term stint on the sidelines?
Jordie has a higher ceiling than our current options at 12, the only downside is that he hasn’t played there at international level.
Foster needs to take a punt for once and make the move, beats doing what we’ve done before because that hasn’t exactly worked.

First test for Ireland:
Smith, Beauden, Reece, Goodhue, Ioane, Jordan Jordie.
I think this it what they’ll pick, but I’d prefer Clarke in 11.
In reality any of the 3 wingers could be picked and I don’t think there would be too many grizzles around the place. -

Smith, Beauden, Clarke, QT, Ioane, Jordan Jordie.
Weber (although that will change as the season progresses), RM, Reece.
Incumbents are Havili and QT. Havili has gone backwards and was a stopgap. QT has developed further, is in very good form and was the identified development 12.
If Goodhue plays well in the finals I expect he will get a chance in one of the games.
For RWC planning one of QT/RTS/Goodhue/Ioane/ALB will miss out come selection (injuries etc withstanding)
Havili and DMac battling for a utility spot.

That's not a fair fight.
Good observations, though. 12 is full of folk with strengths and weaknesses at the moment. Finals could be interesting for RTS; play well in the knockouts and he could have a crack.
QT has played well. Would not be surprised to see him starting there -- and only 23. Midfield would be 23 and 25 with RI. RI is ridiculously young for a bloke with his pedigree.

@Kirwan He had a bad game. Slotting the winning droppie doesn't make him a good 10.
Not saying he shouldn't play 10 for the ABs; just didn't show it today.
Really? Felt he went well.

In reality any of the 3 wingers could be picked and I don’t think there would be too many grizzles around the place.I'd be happy enough with Clarke at 11 and Mo'unga at 10, but I'm otherwise feeling pretty solid in my picks for the 1st test.
It is going to be a long season if we drop that one.
Let's see who can knock it out of the park in the Super play-offs and change my mind.
-
@Crucial I think posters have been too optimistic about how many newbies will make the squad as the squad will be smaller than last year's, and it's always harder to get into the squad than to be dropped. But if he gets into the squad, I assume Leicester Fainga'anuku will be in contention for the left wing spot.

I’m a bit slow to pick up the news that CC did his hammy last night so I guess Reece will start.
I really don’t know who our 4th winger is although Goodhue on the bench could allow RI to cover wing.Ennor could be fourth wing.

Hell no.
-
He's a good defender, big, dependable under the high ball and is reasonably quick. Could do much worse.

That's what I think it will be as well if Foster is happy that Goodhue is match-fit. If, not then QT.

He is also becoming a really mature player for his age as well.
