RWC 2027 in Australia
-
So World Rugby has announced that Australia has been awarded 'preferred bidder' status for the 2027 World Cup.
This means that we've got it pretty much in the bag, barring an unforeseen disaster.
Great news for Aussie Rugby. For all their faults, Rugby Australia have hit this one out of the park... so far. They may not be that good at running the game in Australia, but when it comes to dick swinging with World Rugby suits they've still got it baby!

@Nepia me too
now to start googling for any new grants for local rugby this might bring, love the chat about the final at the MCG
terrible fucking idea until you realise the other option is also a shit ground for watching rugby.
my boys will be old enough so we will be going on tour i reckon
-
@mariner4life yeah, not oblivious to the fact your miles from the pitch and its melbourne
world cup final so mean they "fill" it but still wont be as easy as sydney...and althought your a long way from the pitch ive always found even the top deck at the MCG has a great view
-
the Lions weekend in 2013 was fucking epic in Melbourne, we had an absolute ball.
And it will be filled for sure. Sports tourists at least will go. And there won't be many finals in a stadium that big that will allow so many casuals to attend.
Will try to beat the number of games i went to in 2011

That's an odd tweet. Was anyone else interested in hosting?
Rugby needs the funding injection, but I have a sneaking suspicion the ARU will fuck it all up again by paying overs to attract leaguies...

@antipodean Yeah, it suggets there was still a viable second option. Two years ago, Argentina withrew its bid (more about that here). The only other bid was from Russia. Obviously, with Russia starting a war and being banned by most world sports unions, they were never going to get the RWC.
