Weather noticeably colder now so could go the half marathon at bit later in the day. Still an absolute cnut though.

Monday: smashed out a great shoulder session before heading off to an Anzac day service.

We’re not all as inactive as you @Bones…..running 13km is just a warm up for someone like me.

You've already admitted your version of running is driving alongside the missus.

In an auto, I’d hate to risk doing any cardio by changing gears.

Tuesday: Proper leg day for the first time in a while. Damn good.
Wednesday AM: First swim in about 2 weeks and was bloody agony for the first few hundred metres. Arms and particularly tris absolutely killing me. Gradually got it under control and was happy with 3km. It's like most exercise I guess. You have to get over that hump at the start and eventually it gets better. If I pulled the pin due to the feels I wouldn't get through more than 5 minutes of my workouts.

PM: Swimming training. Managed 2km. Was struggling at the end but got there. Then failed spectacularly in making low carb ice cream. Think I need a better blender.

I’ve got a nice car but only through work as I keep reminding my sons who think I’m cooler because of it.

I remind ( especially the older one ) I’m still the same old Dad who drove a shitty Ford Focus that literally crapped out with smoke coming out of the bonnet as I picked them up from their Mums place years ago.

    Dang 13 days!

Been doing some experimentation with food to arrive at (for me) optimal diet/eating habits. Trick is to find a heap of food to eat that doesn't impact on the guts, mood or performance. As I have noted, I tend to get carried away when I really start chomping.

Found 3 "hacks" that are pretty damn good. The first is a serious face palm moment and one I should have been aware of decades ago, i.e. warm oats up with lots of water in the microwave. 4 min in the microwave then add protein powder and almond milk or water, then another 2 min. Add blueberries and that produces an overflowing bowl of goodness.

2nd is just basically taking 500g of chicken breast or turkey breast mince, mixing it with a shit ton of broccoli and cauliflower, adding wholegrain mustard (and also maybe eggwhites). You then flatten that out, chuck in the air fryer and it's two ridiculously healthy and delicious main meals. Can also add cheese to the top as well. The chicken breast one in particular is very low calorie. My kids even eat this one so it must be OK.

Protein icecream. Heap of ice in blender, some liquid (almond milk, water, sugar free softdrink) to just below the ice level, protein powder and spoonful of xanthan gum. Blend that mofo until it creates ice cream then mix with no sugar topping. Makes an absolute shit tonne of ice cream. Can also add frozen berries etc.

This shows that you can eat a metric shit tonne of food if you choose the right food. Doesn't have to taste like shit either. Will add the macros for these if I can be arsed later.

Training going pretty well. Starting to really ramp up the swimming. Going 4km during the morning sessions which was unheard of not that long ago.

Sunday half marathon continues to be an absolute cnut but once I taper I reckon I'll start feeling less like shit when doing it. Have decided that my long distance running days will be over when I'm don't with the 21/42 weekend. I'm going to buy a bike and use the stupid number of bike paths out here. None of that Lycra-clad bullshit or offroad, cattle track nonsense. Just long rides taking advantage of the bike paths my taxes paid for and few people seem to use. My knees will thank me

Bit more sleep would be nice but can't complain. That niggle must suck but I assume it's no issue if you're careful. Are you completely off the energy drinks? I don't think I've touched them since you reported what happened?

I haven’t had any issues lately. I’ll have a black coffee every weekday morning and will often have two in the weekend. Completely off energy drinks, kombucha is my friend now !

I need to watch spirits as well but as long as I take it easy on them everything seems to be going swimmingly!

Been absolutely smashing it in the pool recently. Have really turned a corner and it's not agony every time I get in. Becoming seriously addicted. Wednesdays is 4km in the morning and 2km in the evening!

Weather has been absolute rat sheet here for weeks and being a massive poosey I did the half marathon on the treadmill. Fark that was boring. But - captain obvious time - was so much better on the knees and legs. I really get the point now. If I want to run for decades to come this machine is my destiny I reckon.

I'm not sure if I respect or feel sorry for somebody that can run that long on a treadmill. Isn't the treadmill the same as using a weight machines vs a free weights? It's been years since I stepped foot in a gym so not sure what the current thinking is, but I know it certainly used to be that free weights were much better.

I love running outside and would happily run in a blizzard as opposed to a treadmill inside. All part of it.

It isn't about preference or choice but potential necessity. I'd love to run outside until the end of time, but the difference in what it does to the body is absolutely massive, particularly in the very hilly area I live in. My knees get farked. Just a reality unfortunately. Got to adapt.
