They have set a low benchmark for their awards with that nomination.

But losing 3 from 4 tests against your harder opponents is off set by beating Fiji and Tonga apparently.
As All Black fans we have so much to look forward to over the next 2 years.

Can we play Hong Kong and the Cook Islands next year to keep our win ratio up.

It’s basically in permanent ink on the nomination form, no matter how shyte they are.

Yes. All those teams are nominated

“All teams in black that took the field in 2021 will be running for New Zealand Team of the Year, and their respective coaches nominated for ASB New Zealand Coach of the Year”

So it will be the same as 2020.

The NZ team of the year nominations in 2020 were the AB's, Black Ferns, Both NZ 7's sides & NZ Maori. It will be same this year
All of the coaches were up for the NZ coach of the year too. The qualification is coaching a NZ national side

This is a non story with a provocative headline.

Can't recall which thread passing and other basics you'd expect ABs to have before getting there, but short chat between Peter Breen (rugby bricks) and Wayne Smith where they discussed learning to pass in AB camp.

Stuart Lancaster on the potential flaw in New Zealand rugby

Stuart Lancaster has suggested that New Zealand rugby might be guilty of being too insular and could fall victim to 'group think'.

    Hey Bones,

I have been thinking this for a while tbh.

Mainly because NZ is not leading the way is going and we have been slow to react to trends in the game and are behind the curve on these as it is mainly being driven out of Europe.

One of the reasons is the brain drain where our leading most experienced coaches are not in NZ.

NZ rugby is insular and inward looking and has been that way for decades.

An example of this is Nz Fans are accused of being arrogant and ignorant because they don’t watch rugby from the NOrthern hemisphere and it’s because it was substandard compared to the rugby on offer in NZ. That’s not the case now though.

I believe we would now benefit greatly if we had some outside experience to give us some pretty hard truths.

It's an easy thing to say, but how about some names? Jamie Joseph I think could be handy.....who else?

And NZ has consistently been top of the pile for decades. But the coaching setup in the last, pretty successful, decade or so has had plenty of outside experience with Hansen and Henry, so a valid point.

I believe we would now benefit greatly if we had some outside experience to give us some pretty hard truths.

I guess that rules out Scott Robinson as AB coach then....

Thought he was still part-time? Explains the Chiefs performance, I guess....

Dunno if he'd get into the AB coaching set-up. Almost as if he's crapped in someone's pocket in the NZRFU at some stage

Without being AB coach, what more could he do in NZ? Think coaching Aus will be a very good experience for him.

I agree with you but the NZRFU stuffed up. It’s going be a difficult job for him in Oz but I would not be surprised if the Aussies take a game or 2 from us this year. Especially with our crew in charge and if we don’t solve the problem in our forwards.

Are you surprised Aussies take a game or two from us any year? That's pretty much the most unsurprising thing any rugby year.

@bones it wasn’t until recently. We had the wood on them. Ok, I’ll go out on a limb and say they will win the Bledisloe.

That's the spirit. If they do, then I'll concede that we are drastically missing the mighty Ram Rennie.

I definitely rate him, he's coached me before so he must be quite good. Are NZ missing him being in the country? Not so sure, but I guess the Canes could definitely do with a coach of his calibre.

Rennie jumped to Aus when they offered him job, and I liked him as a super coach, (when he had right support ie Smith) still to be convinced at next level just yet.
I am a bit of a Joseph as well as Schmidt fan, but he was approached ny NZR after WC but was struggling with the whole test coaching experience thing apparently, and needed a break.
The whole Stuart Lancaster thing about NZ only looking inwards I believe just him trying to get a little attention. I not sure who all these top coaches who are available from other countries are anyway, I think quite often seemingly NZ is looked to by a few countries as the plave to get coaches from? IE Rennie was offered Aus job before it was even open etc.
The ABs had no trouble bringing in Mick Byrne when they thought he had something to add to what they required, and I will ask who are these other coaches that should be coaching them from around the world?
