One of those where people will be critical of the match up after the event ,
But hall does come from a junior boxing background, and to most , got the better of Gallen even though it was judged a draw .
So it did seem a reasonable match up before the event , not forgetting it’s marketing value , afl vs nrl/rugby etc .
There are levels, and for an ex footballer Sbw looked good . The Gallen match up will sell well .

No one was bitching about the match up until after.
I think SBW going and training at Fury's gym basically lifted him well above fighting these wannabes.
His problem now will be finding real boxers at the level he needs to develop while still getting a payday. -

@daffy-jaffy there's a good chance I am wrong because I don't watch much boxing but Hall it looked like Hall went down quite easily.
Seemed to get hit with a temple shot early and his equilibrium went , it’s funny how all of a sudden he looked like an old man once that happened

If he beats Gallen , a fight with a huni in Australia or a fa in Nz might be on the cards .
I think that is a realistic goal for him -

I think that is a realistic goal for himMe too. Having said that, we didnt need Andy Lee to tell us SBW is a great athlete - we all knew that. The learning bit is good though as at times he didnt seem the fastest learner in rugby or league. I don't know who he was training under before but Andy Lee and the whole Fury camp will be so beneficial for him, Looking forward to seeing more as we didnt get much in that one round effort.

@kiwiinmelb I wouldn't get too carried away haha. Let's not forget he got knocked down twice is his last fight against 3-17 Waikato Falefihi where he got a gift. Huni and Fa (who i don't rate that highly) would still wipe the floor with SBW or any league player.
No reason why the Gallen fight can't take place though.

SBW surely would have come a long way technically since then. Doesnt take much of a boxer to knock over a very much part time boxer (like SBW has been and possibly still is, and Barry Hall definitely is as we saw last night).
Gallen fight will be interesting. When is it supposed to be?

not saying he would win , but they are realistic type options that would create interest in their countries if he went on to beat gallen ( emphasis on the if ) where the sbw name creates interest , and this is almost always about money anyway .
if he does beat gallen , he has run out of ex footballers and they say he wants to fight for 2 years , what options are there ?

Like I say, I don't watch boxing so I really didn't know. Good to see those that do watch boxing aren't calling it a sham.

Actual boxers?

I don't get why people are so negative. I'd say that most boxers starting out would love to have money fights as they learn rather than sacrificing years scrambling for low paying fights to climb the ladder.
If he is serious about doing more than exhibition fights then at least he has been able to get some decent training and payment along the 'apprenticeship'
He generates interest that's for sure. Two stories about this fight were in the top 10 clicks on Stuff this morning.
No idea what his ceiling is. He could at least regain a NZ Belt -
@kiwiinmelb Yeah, see your point. Would be surprised if he and gallen carried on in the sport though if/when they fight.

Was interesting to hear Hall say SBW hits harder than Gallen.
That’s the one thing I noticed. His power punches looked to have much more sting in them than when he was knocking tomato cans over a few years back.
-
@kiwimurph I think that was a weakness of sonny's for a very athletic man. Looks to have sorted it. He used to look too timid like he wasn't all in on the punch. Really was hunting that cross with intent.
Gallon is a pressure fighter so he doesn't need to hit as hard. He's nowhere near the size of sbw so it's pretty obvious.

Quite a bit shorter but they’d be a similar weight. Definitely more Joe Frazier than George Foreman though.
Agree though, SBW looked considerably meaner than in the past. . It’s also worth mentioning that just cos a guy has big muscles doesn’t automatically mean he’s gonna hit hard. Some guys just have much more of a natural aptitude for it.

I've seen some people saying sbw barely touched him. But that's not true at all. That one that initially knocked hall down looked like not much but it hit his jaw and neck. All that weight behind it would have fucked up most people. Hall was defo dazed. The last punch was a glancing blow but it connected. I've seen the super slomo and you can see the force in Halls outer cheek, the other side of his face. He got clocked.
SBW is still off balance and doesn't know how to throw from inside. If you watch it back he initially hit hall with what was supposed to be a big wind up punch but was too close in. Still got the job done. Well done to him.

Dean Lonegan not on the SBW bandwagon by the sounds of things.
