@crucial said in Scotland v France:
The Auld Alliance match is a great weekend in Edinburgh.
Countries joined by the love of whisky and the hatred of the English.
And colossal over estimation of their relevance in their political jurisdictions ….
Whisky not something that jumps out to me with the French. Is this a thing?

French fans have taken over Murrayfield

Yep. Frogs love a good scotch
France is(maybe was) Scotland’s largest export market for whisky.
NB: historically the political relevance was massive. Kept England in check for a very long time.

FFS Hogg
A try there would have broken France
Assume you mean the knock on, that wasn't his fault, ball was too far ahead of him ... the passer should have used the numbers instead of going for the glory pass.

Yep, turned a 3 on 1 into a bombed try.

Not Hogg's first rodeo

Learned something new there.
Talking about the present re politics … and sort of pointing out that hating somebody only matters if that somebody cares.

Jesus the French are good. Proper good.
Agreed. Very impressive and building nicely towards a dream redemption at home next year.

Strange thing to feel the need to point out.
The context of the comment was similarities and age old connections between the two countries contributing to a good atmosphere and a fun night out.
How England feels about it has zero relevance. -

How England feels about it has zero relevance.Cut the bullshit. It was bog standard England bashing.
Trying to paint an image of Scots and French arm in arms like age old friends singing about how they hate the English.
What. Fucking. Ever.

You really have picked up the wrong end of the poo stick haven't you.
Was there some bog standard whisky liking in there as well?
I used to live in Edinburgh. I was merely saying how there is good camaraderie between the two sets of fans which in part is due to history.
The post match in the New Town after a France game is different to when Scotland play other teams in my observation. But if you want to saddle up a different horse and ride it into the sunset go ahead.

If you can’t see the difference between what you write here and “countries United by hatred of the English” then I agree that it’s better for me to ride off into the sunset.

Ididn't think it was necessary to embellish the original one liner with a history lesson about the Auld Alliance/ Trade/ Whisky etc.
And yes, there was a wee touch of the standard trope of 'everyone hates the English' (which England Rugby have even used themselves in marketing)
Primarily though it was about the age old connections between the two countries, not some present day xenophobia.

favouritism does funny things to people and teams. ABs had for years been excellent at handling it - but it is hard. Plus, they're french.
