As mentioned a lot of players are too soft... if they're worried about all the travel time they always have the option of doing a job that doesn't involve so much travel.
I quite like the job Trent Boult does, I don't particularly want him to get a new one.

If a player is beginning to fade in is cricket career.
fading. It is actually beneficial if

Boult isn't going to play in the 2nd test, but is still going to be staying at home... ffs ! he could've at least gone along to the ground & supported his team mates like Williamson is doing.
Why? He spends so much time away from home in his job. Even a 'home' Plunket Shield game at Whangarei etc is a week away from home for someone from Tauranga. Why would he want to go and spend another weak away just for appearances sake? So some over-sensitive fan can see 'that he cares enough'?
Kane has one infant, and presumably 'drags' his wife and child around with him. Boult has 2 other kids presumably embedded in a routines of pre-schools etc, and a wife who's just given birth.
As mentioned a lot of players are too soft... if they're worried about all the travel time they always have the option of doing a job that doesn't involve so much travel.
why?
What is the cost / benefit analysis of your very well thought-out opinion?
Didn't say they had to, just an option.
What would be the benefit to you, the team, fans, or Boult of him taking that option?
What would be the downsides? -
lol we get a real man's man here lads
jesus what a Neanderthal way of thinking

If ever there was an opportunity to extend family time, this is it. We are playing very well and just gave the saffas a pumping
If he asks to miss the Netherlands ODI series and show up late to the England tour in order to play a full IPL then that may be taking the piss a little much given he missed four of the last six tests (five if you count the first Bangles test where it is debatable who showed up!).
That said Williamson, Conway, Southee, Mitchell and Boult would be away from NZ from as early as late March (if given the Netherlands series off) until mid July between the IPL, England and Ireland series. Next summer is endless too with two world cups bookending the summer and an away tour to Pakistan... So NZC have to be realistic about balancing the schedule those who are getting older and reluctant to tour constantly.

Covid19 makes it harder too. Less chance to duck home for a while. Although hopefully that will change very soon

Everyone's family situations are different mate, who knows why he's putting that ahead of his cricket right now (which is just his job TBH). A new baby is no joke, sometimes it goes smooth, other times you need to really be there to support your wife through it.
Fair points, no one knows what is exactly going on... but the other blokes in the team have young families too, yet they all went over for the start of that England tour, which was a vital buildup for the WCTC, then a similar thing happens again, just isn't a good look, find a lot of players these days are too bloody soft.
It isn't a good look to you only.
Nothing soft about prioritising your family. That is for sure.
I assume you are a teenager with your weak thought process on this?
If anyone is a teenager it's you, in fact you sound more like a 9 year old - of course it's all about looking after their families, that's an absolute given... just get sick & tired of all the pc bullshit that goes on, it gets worse every year.
Can you please describe the PC part of prioritising his family to this 9 year old. I have a thirst for knowledge at this age.

Just saying you see too much stuff like players taking a week or two off for example to be with their partners for the birth of their child etc, {happens a lot in rugby too}... years ago when the NZ cricket team use to go on tour to England use to take a month to get to England by ship & another month to return, then they played all the matches as well depending how long the tour was, on some of those tours they played 25 to 30 games.

It’s interesting when I first came into coaching I thought the same thing.
Brought up with don’t ever give your position away as you may not get it back.
But as time went on I realised we live in a different world now,Different values thought patterns and enviroment.
The only thing I say to players who are not playing a game due,for many reasons(not injuries)is for every game you miss it makes it harder for us to select you,not impossible just harder.
My first real rugby coach gave me awesome advice I have always stuck to .
He said “When you go to the next level make sure you are the first player picked next week”.

I for one think they should definitely plan their rooting around their sports schedules. If it were up to me Cricketers could ONLY have kids born in Winter and Rugby players in Summer. Anything that falls out of this window ( as Trent Boult has done ) should get a lifetime ban from the sport.
“What the fuck Trent, don’t you think there’s fans out there who want to see you sitting on the sideline supporting the team instead of being with your family ? How dare you have a kid in the middle of cricket season?”

I get you're a bit of a traditionalist but those old tours sound pretty awful, some things are best left in the past. Not sure if you have kids but I'd have serious regrets if I missed the birth of any of my three boys for the sake of my job or a game of cricket.
