His first class cricket stats indicated he could have had a very good international career too, shame we never really found out.His stats (and play) were not that compelling especially with the bat. It's not obvious that he wouldn't have had a similar career to Andrew Penn, Justin Vaughn or Tama Canning (from a slightly later era) which was basically a cup of coffee during injury crises. Cricket Max may have showcased him and kept him in the ODI frame more than those guys as Chris Harris is on the record as saying he is the cleanest/longest hitter of a cricket ball he saw in his career.
Rugby for sure was the better choice. Still incredible to play both to that level.

I was at Seddon Park when Wilson hit an unbeaten 44 off 28 balls to win that ODI against Aust. A small sample size, but his batting was better than his bowling.
First class stats indicate otherwise.
If I went by that logic I’d say the same about Tim Southee based on his 77 not out against England.
Wilson looked to be a really good pace bowler who could bat a fair bit at the top level but we’ll never know for sure.

Shane Williams. A guy that had a storied career (top Welsh try scorer in 6N and RWC, Lion, 6N winner) to be 5 foot 7 in an era of big physical players is a testament to his toughness
His running metres were in the negatives when he marked Rico Gear though

Quite a big difference between a discussion about the games greats & rugby freaks.
there is and perhaps I was not clear, I dont think you can compare either of the two mentioned with the super freaks of Lomu, Cullen as neither were freakish in comparison in my mind
