"The latest evidence shows that school closures are finely balanced. They can cause significant indirect harm to children, including widening educational inequities, poorer mental health, behavioural difficulties, social isolation, family stress, family violence and food insecurity."
@jc It's great that we now have some evidence to back up what was patently obvious to anyone who's ever been a school kid.

havent heard alot from old mate Shaun Hendy the doomsday modeller that had been such a key character previously...Sure sure, he kept getting it wronger than Cersei and Jamie's relationship, but they kept keeping him in the main story line, but now wonder if finally they realised his character was so shit, they wrote him out or maybe only giving him a bit part for the Omicron episodes?

One of my Nana's died in 1960 and the other in 1993.
Could they be the first Covid deaths?
Come to think of it my maternal grandad dies of pneumonia in 1936. I say that's a definite died with Covid case.

Serious question here regarding the protest targets in Welly.
I don't get the attacks on the media. The whole'media are lying', 'Media are the problem' stuff.
I get the link with the whole disenfranchised feelings that people have grasped onto and copied from other countries. Are they just parroting supporters of the ex-POTUS? I ask because I cannot see what the media have done in NZ to deserve that tag.
I'm not looking for a fight, just confused as even so called leftie media daily takes the govt to task with questions. I can point to daily articles that point non mainstream views. An example today is highlighting the over reach of a judge who attacked a defendant over their vax status.
What the media have been doing is pointing out fact AND calling out misinformation. That's not political. That's doing their job.
I seems that anyone that doesn't agree with the misinformed must therefore be taking sides rather than being truthful. It can hardly even be put down to opinion as it is opinion with no factual basis.

Just checking in to see how the Black Plague is going in NZ. Are hospitals overflowing with rotting corpses in the streets? Or is not as bad as the soothesayers predicted?
-
Daughter forgot her mask today, remembered at school gate, I told her to ask for one at office or wherever.
Talking this evening, apparently her class it is just voluntary, already. If she forgets it is ok, most are not wearing one.
I'm pleasantly surprised at that.
It's only the 5th day of the term.

I can't comment on what what it seems like internal, but looking externally you would need to define fact as
- The rest of the planet is burning.
- Ardern answers to questions need not be queried as they are always 100% spot on
- No need to define what Expert means, other than somebody who agreed with Jacinda
4.The world always reacts with NZ in a positive light
It's only very recently (1-2 weeks) that the Herald doesn't have 2 stories in the top 10, one of which how NZ numbers are reducing, and another how a health system somewhere has basically collapsed.
It has been a spot on performance in trying to control the population through propaganda which I think will form the basis of many a Social Study over the coming the years.

Much to the disappointment of the modellers and epidemiologists, no. But the fear is holding us back and it feels like we are just kicking the can down the road. Time to let the handbrake off

Point 2 is utterly incorrect. I think you may be getting your external views from comment on here?
She may be dodging answers or bullshitting but itās not from lack of questions from media. Proof in every post conference session, every radio/TV interview. Questions are being asked and answers not always accepted.
Can they pin her down until she breaks? No. Are they fawning? Also no.I just donāt see why āthe mediaā is copping it myself.
Even the much maligned Stuff is tripping over itself in trying to provide a balanced view.
Reporting what the PM says doesnāt necessarily mean siding with her. Itās their job to report. -
@crucial there has been a bit of a shift lately. Very much In line with the poles
But up until Auckland got completely fed up with lockdown it was very much one sided. The question time was pointless.
There was very little discussion of any studies that showed the vaccines ineffectiveness on transmission, a huge tick against mandates, which I would say is a massive reason for their angst as they are anti mandate protestors.
You have the pm saying delta will find the unvacvinated like some scary movie and no one bats an eye.

@crucial I'll call bullshit on stuff. Their stock in trade is rolling out a procession of covid19 "experts" who try to propagate fear
Everyone rolls out these so called experts. Iām sick to death of them especially as they are commenting from outside of the circle and not party to the actual decisions and models.
They make easy press though.
Pretty sure that all those stories include the word āopinionā.
Iāve read plenty disputing each otherās view as well.
Iām not claiming that media donāt click bait just that they arenāt in some conspiracy with the govt. -
