@no-quarter was talking to someone last week who said they are already seeing issues around the world in younger kids with learning difficulties across a range of things as kids are unable to see peoples faces due to being masked up it is hindering thier development.
It may be true, may end up being true. But I think we can say with confidence that the guy you were talking to was probably talking out of his ass, though. Far to vague, far too soon.
No doubt education has been disrupted, that is not disputed.

Masks or no masks, the untold effects of learning disruption are going to unravel for years to come.
My son is struggling with English (subject, not the language), so we were in today to chat with the teacher about it. She was telling us that student results / development are all over the show. They have 50 odd kids per year at my children school and she was saying they can estimate the development path of about 90% of them accurately (who will flourish, who has real learning issues, etc etc). Thinks at the moment that is closer to 50%.
They have strong students who have completely lost the plot and students showing large inconsistencies across subjects which should be relatively synched. Says it's a complete mess.

At the end of the day, the big thing kids are also learning is how to socialize and what they are good at relative to others (a certain part of a person's self-concept is based on 'normative' beliefs, essentially comparison with others). The lack of socialization and lack of self-regulatory development from not being in a social learning environment worries me the most.
In my context, we are seeing second year students who are essentially high schoolers studying university level content. They are nice kids, but two years in and they are still very much that. I feel really sorry for them and I'd be concerned if you are hiring in two years time.

One of my patients the other day was a second year uni student. Barely stepped foot on campus. What a shame to miss out on the social aspect of the university experience

"The latest evidence shows that school closures are finely balanced. They can cause significant indirect harm to children, including widening educational inequities, poorer mental health, behavioural difficulties, social isolation, family stress, family violence and food insecurity."
@jc It's great that we now have some evidence to back up what was patently obvious to anyone who's ever been a school kid.

If this government had made Season 8 theyโd be spinning it as the most awesome TV ever. Envy of the world.

havent heard alot from old mate Shaun Hendy the doomsday modeller that had been such a key character previously...Sure sure, he kept getting it wronger than Cersei and Jamie's relationship, but they kept keeping him in the main story line, but now wonder if finally they realised his character was so shit, they wrote him out or maybe only giving him a bit part for the Omicron episodes?
