Chiefs 2022

Narawa looks like the man to start at fullback. Acceleration off the mark and very elusive. Maybe ENS and Stevenson fighting for one wing spot with Lowe on the other.
Nick White will be happy with the Chiefs scrum. Thompson still has issues with his throwing.
All up, a decent hit-out for a preseason game. I was hoping that MP would get more possession to test the Chiefs' defence.

Is he good enough under the high ball?
If Thompson can be trusted at LO time, I'm really excited, he looks like a weaopon.

I don't know. IIRC Narawa has played a bit at fullback for BOP but I haven't watched all their games. I don't see Reihana being an option, even though he started there. I would have liked either ENS or Stevenson to spend time at fullback in this game as a comparison but that didn't happen. Tiatia - an impact sub only if in the 23.

@bovidae trask will be in conversation for full back as well
I am assuming he is injured so not available initially.

Lol I know preseason means nothing but that's a disastrous scoreline.
-
LONG season ahead for them. Bottom of the table?
-
I like the look of Narawa at 15 and Tiatia and Lowe were good too for Chiefs. Both have an eye for the gap. That finishing backline posed many threats. Josh Ioane and Roe looked sharp. Starting pack was powerful too. Good omens for depth in the Chiefs.
For MP only McRobbie Motuga and Leuila impressed me much. They may need some work in deciding their best xv.

@antipodean , licence to go ahead with this team July last year and then 4 months to piece a competitive together , and all the best Pacific Island players are either contracted to NZ Rugby or with cashed up overseas clubs ..this first year was always going to be extremely tough under those circumstances , as long as they improve ,as for the culture side of the team , it might just be the one thing that keeps them tights .
I for one will cut them plenty of slack over the next 2-3 years .. -
@steven-harris agreed. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a Warriors scenario.
-
@bovidae yeah I don't see Reihana as a 15, maybe in the future, but defensively he isn't string enough and his positioning not ideal, he still needs development and as such should focus on 10 and learn what he can there.
-
@taniwharugby Likely just a case of finding positions for all of the players, which is why Tiatia was on the wing. I think Reihana is a 1st 5, but he is #4 at the Chiefs so won't be getting too many opportunities in that position.
-
@bovidae and probably lucky to be able to be #4 after his up and mainly down 2021 season up here...he has talent, that is without a doubt, I hope he absorbs as much as he can from the Chiefs camp as I am not sure the development will continue up here with our coaches.
