@crucial Tiatia looks to be named on the left wing. Lowe at centre.

@bovidae wonder if ENS and Stevenson are pencilled in as first choice wings with Narawa seen as back 3 cover or Lowe as wing centre cover. And maybe Slater or Thompson seen as extra loosie cover? Will be interesting to see where players are positioned through the 3 'halves'
I think Chiefs need either Narawa or ENS to break through this season as a strike weapon and expert finisher. There is plenty of depth in forwards and inside and midfield backs.

@arhs The second preseason game should give a better idea of a likely Rd 1 team. After all the conjecture Trask is missing too. Maybe injured. The others not involved who haven't been mentioned are Ross, O'Neill, Brown and Parker.

In case any of you guys are interested and don't know - your game against Moana Pacifika is actually on sky live right now.

Narawa looks like the man to start at fullback. Acceleration off the mark and very elusive. Maybe ENS and Stevenson fighting for one wing spot with Lowe on the other.

Nick White will be happy with the Chiefs scrum. Thompson still has issues with his throwing.

All up, a decent hit-out for a preseason game. I was hoping that MP would get more possession to test the Chiefs' defence.

@bovidae thopson will be a weapon if his throwing can be fixed
thought all the usual names went well and the next tier down did there roles.
back three is going to be our issue but Narawa has to be in it somewhere

Is he good enough under the high ball?

If Thompson can be trusted at LO time, I'm really excited, he looks like a weaopon.

I don't know. IIRC Narawa has played a bit at fullback for BOP but I haven't watched all their games. I don't see Reihana being an option, even though he started there. I would have liked either ENS or Stevenson to spend time at fullback in this game as a comparison but that didn't happen. Tiatia - an impact sub only if in the 23.

I am assuming he is injured so not available initially.

@tim all of their social media I've seen was devoted to culture, so I'm not surprised at the result given their recruitment.

I like the look of Narawa at 15 and Tiatia and Lowe were good too for Chiefs. Both have an eye for the gap. That finishing backline posed many threats. Josh Ioane and Roe looked sharp. Starting pack was powerful too. Good omens for depth in the Chiefs.

For MP only McRobbie Motuga and Leuila impressed me much. They may need some work in deciding their best xv.

@antipodean , licence to go ahead with this team July last year and then 4 months to piece a competitive together , and all the best Pacific Island players are either contracted to NZ Rugby or with cashed up overseas clubs ..this first year was always going to be extremely tough under those circumstances , as long as they improve ,as for the culture side of the team , it might just be the one thing that keeps them tights .
I for one will cut them plenty of slack over the next 2-3 years ..

@steven-harris agreed. Hopefully it doesn't turn into a Warriors scenario.

MP will need to get their set piece sorted to be competitive. Their scrum was in trouble all game, even against the Chiefs WTG props. The lineout struggled too, perhaps due to a lack of height at lock.

@bovidae yeah I don't see Reihana as a 15, maybe in the future, but defensively he isn't string enough and his positioning not ideal, he still needs development and as such should focus on 10 and learn what he can there.
