**Speaking on the latest episode of James Marshall’s What a Lad podcast, however, Barrett has confirmed that a positional change into the midfield is very much on the cards in the near future.
“I’d be lying if I said I hadn’t spent a few hours in this quarantine hotel thinking about my transition into 12 – something I might do at some stage, whether it’s this year or next year or further down the track,” Barrett said.
“I was a 12 growing up, [it was where I played] most of my footy. I feel like my skillset suits that. Who knows? I guess I’ve got the next month and a half to figure out which avenue I’ll go down but look, I’m happy with the way I’m going at 15 but got a serious eye to playing 12 at some stage so probably not a matter of if, it’s a matter of when.”**
He's certainly big enough for it, if he beefed up more, he'd be great there. He's played played much every position for ABs outside nine, he has the skills to be a very good 12. Concentrate on it, would be ideal. But he'd have to start now to be good enough for next RWC
Interestingly, I heard on radio before France match Razor would've selected Jordie at 12, Will Jordan at 15.
He mentioned Jordie is a "natural 12" who can "kick off both feet" and a physical presence at 1.96m, 102kg.
I was interested in who Razor would pick as AB wings and now I am even more interested.
That's the sort of thinking the All Black's need. Razor isn't afraid to make innovative decisions to enhance the All Black's game. I've made my opinions noted on here that Barrett should have been 12 all along so I'm glad this is finally happening.
Let's hope Holland is willing to throw him in there for the Canes.
I’m amazed @Rancid-Schnitzel hasn’t been along to upvote this post.

I've only been banging this particular drum for about 5 years. Absolutely farking ridiculous it's taken this long.

Right some Christmas cheer for all us Canes fans have it from a good source that Dominic Bird has torn some ligaments and is out for the 2022 season sorry I can’t tell you we’re abouts the ligaments are just that he’s gone….Merry Christmas Canes fans.
D Bird in a sling in this latest post by the Canes. Good to see Owen Franks in Welly.
Looks like Jacob Devery in that first photo aswell. @Stargazer might be able to confirm.

That's a shocker - Bird would've really added that much needed grunt to our pack at scrum time... Canes have always had plenty of good loosies, but the tight-five is where you control the game from, that area has always been our Achilles heel.

@kiwibloke grunt at the scrum or height in a lineout?

Props and locks have always been our weakness. We’ve always had good hookers, loosies and backs but unfortunately you don’t win tournaments without a tight five.
Ironically we sign Bird and Franks to shore up those areas and they get season ending injuries. Funny that.

It's beyond belief the Canes coaching staff want him, even worse when he's in the starting 15.

Yeah, we've had good hookers, but when a good hooker has poor props either side of him it certainly doesn't help the front row perform well.

@kiwibloke That is not likely to change whilst the lover affair with Alex Fidow and, to a lesser extent, Xavier Numia (who is simply a touch too small to be really effective) continues.

I'm so tempted to spam the shit of the Canes instagram page for their treatment of the Magpies, they deserve it, but I don't want you blokes all knowing my business.

True, we've lacked some height in the lineout as well - our lack of a good tight-five has annoyed me for years, I reckon our backs have always had so much flair because they've needed to counter attack heaps as they hardly ever get a decent platform from our forwards... I remember a few years back we finished mid table in the Super Rugby, but scored more tries than any other team in the comp

Fidow & Numia have very good balls skills - ideally you'd want your prop to have a bit of flair & be good at scrum time... as you say though, they are both a bit small as props & also lack a bit of scrummaging technique, not only do we need good starting props, we also need some depth in that area off the bench.

I doubt Fidow has ever been called small before.
I think Reed Prinsep deserves to have a Hurricanes' contract. He actually put in some good performances last season - he just isn't the most dynamic player, and will never be anything beyond a good stopgap option.
