@majorrage absolutely smoking the old pro, awesome!
Faaarrrrk the increase in sweatiness just makes the combover worse and worse though.
I was listening to talkback and someone pointed out that darts players are the most shit elite “athletes” possible, someone else however pointed out that whilst this may be true in one sense it still takes immense willpower to stay playing well under the lights/heat/pressure etc.
Usain Bolt couldn’t play front row rugby, Owen Franks couldn’t run more than about a metre before falling over.
More than one type of athlete. Darts players deserve their spot and the haters can just, hate.

I love the darts but I don’t think they’d do particularly well at “Clash of the Codes” type TV shows.

I agree with you that darts players deserve respect, but I am a bit surprised that we've never had (maybe not yet?) a Tiger Woods effect in darts. Most players look like they're reasonably overweight and I do wonder if an elite darts player would get an advantage being also being physically fit, particularly at the businesses end of the tournament where they have to stay focused for so long in an incredibly intense environment.

Reckon it might have happened tonight.
30 yr old Smith looked visibly tired as the game went on. Reckon if he lost a few pounds, trophy would be his.

@majorrage maybe also just experience and the tough road he's had there? Not that Wright had it massively easier, but I can't say he looks markedly more fit than Smith...
Dunno. Wright is much older and I think he just has a natural sort of pot gut which is more age related than anything. Smith is way overweight for a 30 year old.

@stockcar86 noooo.....the front is definitely over/across, it goes alllll the way around the top of the forehead from one side to the other - it's so awful I can only imagine he's taking the piss?

Most of them are like throwbacks to a few decades ago where people looked much older eh. I was shocked to see Wade is only bloody 38! He's 5 years younger than me and looks 10 years older.

It is across, but sourced from the back - you can see more clearly from the side view

I love Darts.
Have just set up the board in the garage. The potential future Mrs MN5 insisted I got a big backboard for it but I pointed out the wall is old and pretty fucked anyway and neither of us are quite unco enough to miss the board completely very often.
Shit it is good fun, My aim this year is to beat my previous best ever score of 140 ( triple 20, triple 20, 20 ). Throwing a 180 at least once in my life would make me very happy.

Incredible final last night. This leg the highlight on an evening full of highlights.
Mardle, the commentator, had to step away from the mic as he blew his voice up.
This is just unreal sports entertainment.
Van Gerwen showed great humility in defeat I thought.
I got some of his darts for Xmas actually, same shade of Fluro green as the tops he wears.
Now I’ve had a really good run at home in the garage, unbeaten actually. I played a game of round the world at the beach house in Hawkes Bay ( we actually nailed the dusty board that had been in the garage for years to a tree ) and CAME SECOND to the girls brother.
I definitely blame the away conditions and getting used to my new darts. No other explanation.

One of those events/sports that you can really enjoy from afar and the crowd add a lot of atmosphere.
I’d never go to the Ally Pally though. Would be like the airport Weatherspoons at holiday time. I saw enough of the afters on the tubes to tell me that it’s not a place for me. -

Probably only once though. I’d imagine the novelty would wear off.
Just like the sevens but with no perving opportunities.
