Klitschko, Fury, Parker, Takam & Joshua
-
good fight
-
no more questions on joes chin , he took some shots tonight
-

Good performance Joe, should edge him by a few points. Takam took the hits but didn't throw enough.

Joe's been in a real boxing contest now. This will be a great learning experience for him - fitness, keeping hands up and keeping power in those late round combos are some work ons.
-
probably the best fight ever held in nz
-

Congrats Joe - astute call by Barry and co to have a crack at a real challenger.

Agree Kiwiinmelb, Joe wore some good shots and fired straight back.
-

He is still young but I think he should take on a few more guys at Takam's level before Joshua.

the interesting part, joshua has a world title , and hasnt fought anyone as good as Takam
-
Wasn't as convincing as its been made out on here, even Kevin barry said it was 50:50 at the end of the fight.

I reckon the look on the faces of his corner said it all. Look at Bryan Barry's face, he thought he'd lost.

I kinda feel sorry for Takam, but he knew the risk coming to NZ and as a 35 year old should have known to try take Parker out.

Still a great fight, and Parker showed great heart.... And he now knows what it's really about -
takam showed why he has a reputation as a guy to avoid , very awkward , and a great chin ,

it was perfect for Joe , he needed a tough battle
-

Good boxing match. No sport matches the sweet science of boxing when it is fought at a high calibre - the different components that need to work makes it still the best to watch despite what the naysayers say.

Haven't watched many Parker fights but watched this one with the international (British) commentary instead of the homer Kiwi one. Some interesting takes were:

- Parker has some big, although not major, defensive flaws in his game which will get him into trouble against the fighters at the top of the rankings.

- Parker looked gone in the mid-rounds, especially round 6, when Takam made his move to knock him out but he found ways around his defensive flaws to survive.

- Takam was the real deal but a poor strategy cost him as he tried to overwhelm Parker but only in short spurts.

- Parker was happy to change his style and strategy when things weren't working and that ultimately got him across the line.

- Parker's jab, especially his defensive jab, is impressive. Takam tried to overwhelm Parker again in the later rounds but was stopped by 3 or 4 quick power jabs each time.

The commentators said Parker had proven he wasn't a pretender and even the Pommy panel agreed afterwards. One was fighter Dillian Whyte who bragged he could knock both Parker and Takam out, although I think he would struggle with Takam too. All agreed Anthony Joshua has yet to fight someone of Takam's calibre (even Whyte nodded and he lost to Joshua).
-
Not a bad fight by Joe. Takam was always going to be a very tough ask and it sure was a test for him which he passed but not with flying colours. Got tagged way too much but proved he has a decent chin on him.

They will take a lot from this fight as there is clearly lot of work to do before fighting Joshua. -

I'm just glad Parker is doing this properly - working his way up, fighting better quality each time, learning and improving. Analysing the footage of this fight will hopefully help identify the technical flaws to work on.

At no time has he embarrassed himself or been an all-talk dick, which is promising for the future.
-
That Takam is certainly solid as a rock. Watching the replays and he took some hard hits that would have floored many others.
Parkers hand speed when his throws combos is often too hard to even see in real time. You only realise afterwards and wonder what happened.
Good to have those flaws exposed too. Better during a win than when it's too late. -

That is left to Lonergan - the stereotypical loud-mouth promoter. But I agree, Parker seems humble and level-headed.

For those that watched the fight, did Parker work the body as was indicated in the pre-fight comments?
