Foster, Robertson, Rennie etc

reckon there is zero chance he resigns. Would you? Be honest.
There's also zero chance NZRU will do anything with Foster this year - perhaps a change in an assistant at most.
-
@crucial Seriously being a loyal servant doesnt mean you deserve credit. If you have a performance review and it is terrible, then it tends to indicate you probably should not be in that role or you need a lot of help?
It doesnt mean you should get a tick of approval because you're in the old boys club, that is part of the current cultrual problem, if anything.

The assistants aren't signed up yet, there's hope for deck chair shuffling, if not iceberg avoiding

The only guy I can recall who even came close to resigning was Wayne Smith

Pick his assistants for him and essentially render him as a figurehead

do a gatland, make him "director of rugby"

Totally misunderstanding the meaning of my words.
Nothing to do with a tick of approval. I was talking about the man himself and how I doubt he would weasel out under a cloud of 'family reasons'. If the NZRU truly sat him down and said they felt it would be in the best interests he would go with that IMO.
He may even do it before being sat down but that's not necessarily how I see it going.Criticise his coaching abilities by all means but saying he isn't man enough to face up to his position and will make up a bullshit cover is a bit on the nose (again IMO)
In other words play the ball, not the man.
He doesn't select himself, he offers his services. Services that involve family sacrifices and public scrutiny and ridicule. -
The more I look at this coaching team, the more irritated I get with him and Hansen. Hansen's increasingly being revealed to be a lucky coach.

Even better, do a "Tana".

NZ Rugby has locked Ian Foster in until 2023, but his assistants are not yet signed-up.
More like Ian Foster has locked in NZ rugby until 2023.

Sure he has failings at the top level but that doesn't detract from the person and he doesn't deserve vilification.
Vilification?
I tend to think personal weaknesses will be reflected in coaching ability. They are linked.
He isn't ruthless, too nice, not motivating enough, has no overall vision for the team, according to Devine - too unstructured. -
Oh god, we have a mad man at the wheel of the big black bus
At least when we were shit, Shag told us we were shit

No he didn't, he said rugby is a game and to not worry about it. It is not gracious to talk about our deficiencies because it takes away from our opponents. The public need to grow up etc.

Fair enough. But I don't ever recall him saying we'd made significant growth after getting our butts handed to us on successive weekends either
-
Our attack is utter rubbish. Attack coach can go
Our breakdown work is substandard. Our forwards "positioning" is not useful. Our set piece creaks. The forwards coach can go
Our defense is alright, but i am seeing good players make bad decisions so something is not working. The defense coach can go.
Our skills have regressed, significantly. our passing was once a strength is no longer class leading. We kick very poorly. We knock on a lot. Skills coach can go.

I've no idea what parts of the game we've made significant growth in. Admittedly I'm not a sought after international coach with an impeccable pedigree, but from my ignorant perspective nothing has improved.

@nostrildamus I can understand the fatigue factor and will cut them a bit of slack for that, but it doesn't excuse the fact that they are still running the same playbook from a few years ago. It doesn't excuse the fact that our defensive linespeed is so passive and it doesn't excuse the fact that they are continuously selecting players who are only SR level players like Havilli, DMac, Angus T, Bridge etc and hoping that they will somehow develop into quality test players when they clearly won't.
oh I think we agree. I'm just trying to be evenhanded. A little.

yes but Shag never (AFAIK) ever said he himself was shit.
And as noted above there has been a slow weakening of player strengths, teamwork and ideas...
I suspect we more and more relied on the 'stars' rather than the 'team'...
