But the Crusaders have a history of always picking their coach from within the region. Will they finally break that tradition? I think they should.
-

For Schmidt? hell yes
-
Schmidt is signed on with Ireland until end 2017.

Do we believe this rumour? -
Yes, contracted until June 2017, apparently.

maybe he could do some coaching by VC?

Just have a big TV screen and speakers at whichever team training he cant physically attend that week
-

In fairness, he is a demi-god in Ireland (or at least in the Pale), so they would probably acquiesce if he asked to be let off early. He has a son with quite bad epilepsy, and if that was part of the reason to move back home, I doubt the IRFU would stand in his way. Would be a PR disaster in Ireland for them if they insisted he see out his contract ahead of his son's well-being.

I would he happy enough, but I would want "Leinster-style" rugby from his HEC success days, rather than the percentage kicking rugby that has typified much of his Irish reign.
-

Depends on who applies and what their plans are.

I don't think there's anything particularly broken at the Crusaders that we need a massive change in direction. We will undoubtedly get some fine-tuning on Toddy's little ways with whomever might be chosen from within the region.

I certainly don't think we should take someone from outside the region just for the sake of it.
-

Hammer is contracted as Assistant Coach with the Mako$ for the 2016 and 2017 seasons.

Don't know about his Sunwolves' gig, but I reckon he'll be there next year
-
Yes that's why he's not being considered for the Crusaders gig. -

Who is actually making this decision? Riach and the board I assume - not to sure with the new commercial arrangements with the franchises? One would think that it is almost incumbent on the NZRU to ensure nepotism wouldn't win the day if Schmidt did indeed reply.

-

Mark Watson was having a rant about NZ not doing enough to keep Rennie And JJ and putting the boot into Umaga...interestingly he never mentioned anything about keeping Blackadder....

I only started listening a bit into the peice but it almost sounded like he was saying Rennie and JJ should be offered loads to go to the Blues?

He even mentioned it on the show, he is the Twattue of the radio.
-

I read a quote from Schmidt last year where he said he would reassess his future with Ireland after their tour to SA. That suggests he has an out-clause in his contract.
-

The Blues would be unstoppable if everything (or even a few things) NZME media (Herald, Radio Sport etc.) called for came to pass. They could have three of the world's best 10s and be able to hire many of the world's best head coaches simply to be video analysts.

What? - The NZRU should over-ride the appointment process to ensure that Schmidt gets the job, because he's at least as good as Coach of the Year Pat Lam?

Can't say I've much followed Schmidt's progress, but I did note that on the biggest stage, in the World Cup QF vs Argentina, his team "Did Not Get It Done!"

Doubtless a good coach, but I'm inclined to think that he is not Helen Keller's teacher (The Miracle Worker).
