@cgrant Yeah, should have been a 23-11 half time score instead of 20-14. How could a professional ref get that so wrong.
He did that twice, would've been twice, would've been 26-11 just after half time
We would have destroyed them from 26-11. No way would they have been able to come back from that margin against a confident ABs outfit and we would have continued to pile on the points.
It was a game changer, still good that we lost cos it puts front and centre foster's AB's deficiencies. No excuses now, going forward. Not that Foster will be able to overcome them*, but it is not like he doesn't know where the team needs to be.
- See all the pre-2020 test talk about dealing with the physcality from the coaching group - YEAH RIGHT
I'm struggling with your logic here.
Better to lose due to a bad referees call because that distorts Foster's actual ability ...

@crucial Jessie Kriel.
Should know better then.
And support staff (whether part of the touring squad or not) should not jump into the handshakes until after the players have done. Just bad manners. -

Ref whinging?
Blimey. I’ll look at the AB forwards getting destroyed first.
Don't think anyone is making excuses. Just a point of discussion.
You can still discuss this aspect of the game without it being whingeing. -

I'm with @Crucial on this one.
We didn't lose because of the ref, but discussing his performance is useful and relevant.

You can still discuss this aspect of the game without it being whingeing. We came within a minute and point of winning - despite getting our arse handed to us.
Ref calls at time were average, but on the balance, favoured us.

I'm not so sure. There were a number of calls which cost us points. He certainly got more and more erratic as the game went on

I deliberately didn't equate any talk of the reffing to the outcome and mentioned that I was sure that Saffa fans would likely have there own opinions as well.
Maybe there should be a separate thread to discuss law interpretations being used in games or something?
It's very easy to dismiss the reffing contribution as 'that's not why X lost' when it is an interesting part of the game

ok team, looking back at some highlights.
RI had a pretty quiet game i thought but one of his best moments was when he popped up in midfield on BB's shoulder before Saveas try
and then i remember 3-4 times ALB running down the wing on the end of a backline move
were we running some sort of complicated moves where several people were in motion or was RI just "naturally" drifting infield leaving ALB as the outside man, i only noticed it on the right
I cant help but think if RI had been the one receiving the ball with space on the wing we might have made more progress

I wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if blackadder overtakes ioane. These last 2 tests really weren’t Akiras finest hour. Blackadder is a very handy line out option too.
Blackadder and Jacobson have been interchangeable jumping at the front of the lineout. That will usually be a safe option. Ioane when used in the lineout is down the back.

What’s wrong with this picture (clue: players on ground are BB and BBBR)?Dunno. Pray tell.
Well, a good start would be Joe or Nepo doing the cleanout and BB standing at first receiver!

@canefan you mean he got more safa favoured as the game went on and their forwards were destroying us ….
Funny that.
I didn't want to get drawn into blaming the ref, just an observation. Doesn't change the fact that coming out of the half they basically owned us in the forwards and once again we couldn't match their physicality

@nta Boet PSdT is a work horse. The type that you only miss when he isn't around. He is as good as 2 Hoopers.
Kolbey is like sharp knife, cutting through defense for breakfast.
PSdT was voted best rugby player on planet earth in 2019 after the WC.

A couple of arbitrary observations from this Saffa:
A much better game to watch this week.
Obviously nice for me that the rugby gods chose to smile on the Boks this time around - but this game was ball-hair close again. 3 of them on this tour so it was about time we came out on the rights ide of thingsBeen reading some of the comments about the AB lineout... I don't think it struggled nearly as much as some of you seemed to think. I guess what hurt was losing one or two crucial ones, but don't forget the one you nicked off us for Webber's try.
Also saw some comments on Ardi Savea's captaincy. Can't say I was paying too much attention to it, so won't comment on that, but lordy he is playing some sublime rugby though!
And Jordy Barrett... never really rated him before, but I have to revise that view now. And he has some serious BMT when it comes to those clutch-moment penalties.
On the Bok side I thought Kwagga Smith played well, Duane Vermeulen is an absolute machine, and Lukhanyo Am is fast establishing himself as one of our best ever 13's to join the ranks of some illustrious predecessors like Danie Gerber and Jacques Fourie. His defence-organization is supreme, and he really is the creative force of our backline.
All-in-all a test match worthy of the proud rivalry between the AB's and Boks.
