I wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if blackadder overtakes ioane. These last 2 tests really weren’t Akiras finest hour. Blackadder is a very handy line out option too.
Not really in competition. Blackadder for me a 7/utility, so Paps the comparator. Akira was ABs best line out forward from 36-66. More the issue of 8, but Ardie was good there in last 20.

The ref shat the bed last night. We need consistency for the whole match. Some refs become reluctant to award a final penalty unless something really obvious happens. Last night we saw the opposite, the ref looked for penalties in the closing moments. What he let pass during the match, suddenly became penalties in the last 5 for both teams. Panicked!

@old-samurai-jack I haven't gone back to look, did Vermuelen even get his hands on the ball for that penultimate penalty?

Not sure but I thought the offside penalty under the sticks was marginal. Reserve scrummie Jantjies kinda double pumped and Ofa went on the pick up as he is entitled to do.
In saying that Ofa is kind of a liability. He should start or not make the 23 at all.

Other than Taukieaho, do we have a front rower that's not a liability?
Bower had a good game.

Jordie was outstanding but he has to work on his technique when catching the high ball. He mistimed his jump and jumped too early when the Boks did their first kick chase in the 2nd minute I believe and as a result had to lift his non landing leg, as he did in Perth. Luckily for him there wasn't a Bok player near him or it could have been a red again.

Tough watches :
Weber battling against three Springbok forwards with Moody and Retallick watching the scene only five meters away and doing nothing.
Aumua's LO throw straight into Kitshoff's hands.
Ref wrongly penalizing Beauden Barrett inside the Boks 22 when the ABs were leading 20 to 11. This was a key moment IMO.
ABs scrum.
ABs lineout.
ABs last two minutes.
ABs bench (with the notable exception of Blackadder who was adequate).
Silly penalties conceded again and again. -

@cgrant Yeah, should have been a 23-11 half time score instead of 20-14. How could a professional ref get that so wrong.
He did that twice, would've been twice, would've been 26-11 just after half time
We would have destroyed them from 26-11. No way would they have been able to come back from that margin against a confident ABs outfit and we would have continued to pile on the points.

It was a game changer, still good that we lost cos it puts front and centre foster's AB's deficiencies. No excuses now, going forward. Not that Foster will be able to overcome them*, but it is not like he doesn't know where the team needs to be.
- See all the pre-2020 test talk about dealing with the physcality from the coaching group - YEAH RIGHT

Some poor penalty calls either way and it is frustrating when they don't balance out but refs are going to make those and you have to get past them.
For me a couple of major calls/non-calls that should be topics in the after match review.
I can't remember the minute etc but there was a bok kick that we didn't clean up well, ended up under pressure at the back and gave away 3. When the kick was made I thought we must have been under advantage to see how things cleared out because the primary bok chaser was about 10 metres in front of the kicker. Wasn't picked up by any of the refs but was really obvious. That had me baffled.
The other was the non-YC for the 'intercept attempt'. That was plainly a cop out call.Maybe the problem is with the process because it seemed that the key for the ref was like a PT call whereby any opposition defender gets called as 'covering' and once he saw that he dismissed the YC call altogether despite there being a three on one overlap that would have likely created a breakout run well into opposition territory with support runners.
I sure bok fans have their gripes too.BTW, (I havent read the thread) does anyone know who that fucktard waterboy was? Not only did he do the shit that got the ref warning him but at the end of the game inserted himself into the post-match handshakes before the players had completed. Needs taking behind the sheds for a talking to.
