Who was calling the lineouts? Whomever had a shit game.
Looked like Boks almost knew our calls
Well it was fairly obvious we would be throwing a lot of ball to two after last week's line out woes

Another thing that I don't think has been mentioned yet is how easy it is for teams to pin us in our own half following kick off. This has been a problem for a few years now. Last night the Boks were superb at it. Kick long and high to give the chasers time to get in a defensive position. Then stop the ensuing maul, smash our one off hit up and pressure the subsequent kick. We end up defending a lineout between our 22 and 10 metre line if we are lucky.
We miss a long punting game, especially at 10.
Carter was a great runner and passer, exceptional goal kick, and his defence was very good, but that sweeping left boot got the ABs out of difficult spots so many times.
Helped he could kick 40 on the fly with his right too.
Watched an old game a while back and the ABs had Dagg kicking long, as well as Carter. Hit home how poor we are in that department now.
Perhaps the time has come to (finally) get Marty Banks into the ABs, got a very good boot that boy 😀
Not clutch though….

I don't like having a go at the match officials, and fair play to Carling for having the guts to whistle penalties at the end, but there bad calls both ways. The worst for mine though was Mpimpi being a good few metres offside on the kick chase, not spotted by anyone.
I was yelling at the TV then. It wasn't even close and the AR was right there.
I thought he had checked himself for a second because he'd screwed his timing up so monumentally, but then he kinda changed his mind and contested the ball.
Was very bizarre

The unfortunate reality is that we are struggling with world class players and depth. If you picked a combined Bok/AB side, with the bomb squad front row….we would be lucky to have 5 ABs on the park, and only 1 forward (Savea)…and that includes A.Smith. We got by lat weekend as the Boks had a crappy game plan but we were outplayed this week across the park as they have stronger, faster, better players in more positions than we do. It’s going to be a problem again when we get to France. I don’t thing the return of the old guard is going to solve our problems 2 years out from now. Cane, Whitelock and plastering over a bigger problem. We need to find and develop the younger talent, it’s there…Leicester F, the Highlaners 9…….too many of our players are aged or are never going to be anything more than solid test players. That won’t win a WC.

@junior Jordie has been ignored by AB selection management over the past 2 years. Crazy.
What pisses me off about Jordie is that on debut he was basically MOTM playing 15. Against the fucking Lions.
So what did the Canes and ABs do after that? Fucking try him in every bloody position in the backline fucking with his form and confidence.
When Mils played 15 on debut and was a stand out, they bloody well kept him there and he ended up a 100 test AB.
Jordie should have racked up a lot of tests at 15 by now, but they seem to have only just cottoned on to the fact that it is his best position now.

@no-quarter We all know he's had the odd brain fart but he's young. Its also plain to see the range of skills: vision, pace, passing both sides, jumping, field and goal kicking. I think he's faster now also probably from gym work. Hasn't been managed well and it's great to see him flourishing in his best position
-
@act-crusader You taking the piss?

Poor throwing by Aumua. In Kitshoff steal he didn’t have to jump.

Nope. They just mark up on your second rowers at 4-6+ and let you have front ball to let the pod at the front stop your maul. They did it against us as well. Later in the game they'd swap Etzebeth to the front to disrupt your 2 ball when it was obviously the go-to.
What the fucking hell was happening with Kitshoff won the ball at the front, i don't know. Terrible execution.
Aumua threw ball straight to him. No mystery.

I guess my point was: why no jump at all? Take the prop out of the equation and make sure he can't touch you

@nta In second half Bok forwards, one scrum apart, didn’t boss ABs in set piece. Lost lineouts were down more to poor throws.
In third quarter from phase play, when ABs did have ball, Boks chaperoned backs on open side into running away from cleaners and back towards Quagga/Marx. Crying out for a kick from BB to vary play. Or big munter running hard line.
Fourth quarter ABs worked the blind and with Blackadder getting promptly to rucks Qwagga was less effective and the points flowed.
I think it was a mistake to swap out BB at the 65, albeit ABs mainly played more structured game thereafter. -
Game management by Steyn in the last 10 minutes was absolutely superb. He looks like he couldn't run to the dairy for a pie but he sure can kick and knows how to close out a game, in the opposition 22!

Certainly gave us a lesson

I wouldn’t necessarily be surprised if blackadder overtakes ioane. These last 2 tests really weren’t Akiras finest hour. Blackadder is a very handy line out option too.

Of that I am sure! ACT Crusader meant to say "I wouldn’t pick one non-Crusader in a combined AB/Bok side"

Very different players which is good. I'd be happy to rotate 6s for different types of games rather than wear one out (Kaino perhaps a little?)
To me Dalton and Blackadder are quite similar but at least one of them should be on the field. If a fit and inform Cane returns that just adds more options. 8 is still a mystery, I like both Luke J and Sotutu but either may be works in progress.. -

Not really in competition. Blackadder for me a 7/utility, so Paps the comparator. Akira was ABs best line out forward from 36-66. More the issue of 8, but Ardie was good there in last 20.

The ref shat the bed last night. We need consistency for the whole match. Some refs become reluctant to award a final penalty unless something really obvious happens. Last night we saw the opposite, the ref looked for penalties in the closing moments. What he let pass during the match, suddenly became penalties in the last 5 for both teams. Panicked!
