All Blacks vs Springboks II

Thought swapping half backs might be the priority.
It should be. BB looked great in Perth playing in combination with Weber. TJP's slow/high/low passing did not help his 10 and 12.
I am expecting the loose forward trio that was originally selected to start. Ardie at 7 is much better than Ardie at 8 because he doesn't play that tighter role that we need from our no.8. That then allows Ioane to be in the wider channels.
Bridge out of the 23 should be a no-brainer.

It was such a shame for BB to go backwards from the game before, neither 10 nor 12 looked comfortable, and doubling on the terrible passing/lack of platform I wonder if that Bok line wasn't up rather early but I have not seen a reply..

I agree, Ardie and Akira at 8 and 6 maybe are too similar.
Bridge out of the 23 should be a no-brainer.
I think this may have been said before.

The only issue with Akira, Ardie, Jacobson is that one of them will be the middle which is the Cane/Paps speciality. I don't mind Ardie and Akira together but both are better on the edges, so someone has to play in the middle. I'm not sure that is Jacobson's role until Cane comes back and perhaps Ardie goes to the bench, when Jacobson can also go to the tramlines.

I would credit the boks with screwing up our platform and everyone wider out suffered

My preference would be an Ioane/Papalii/Jacobson combo but that isn't going to happen while Savea is captain. Once Whitelock (or Cane) returns we may see that trio again. Obviously in this game both props and locks need to be more effective in cleaning at the breakdown too.

I don't think you can overstate the role TJP had in putting our backline under pressure leading to so many errors. His passing was inaccurate at best, and nearly every ruck he was taking a few steps before passing the ball while he looked for who to pass too. You just can't afford those delays plus passes at players feet/head against a rush defense.
I never thought I'd say this, but I really hope Weber starts the next match. Beauden and Havili probably do as well.

I like Jacobsen but he appears to have taken on almost legend status the more he doesn’t play… 😉
Keep Beaudie at 1st 5. Give Weber the start.
What do we do at tighthead? On the weekend wasn’t Laulala’s first poor showing this year. Ofa could get a start now that he’s had two stints off the bench. Keep Taylor and Sami.
Retallick needs a rocket. Looking forward to him firing.
We need to find an edge for this match. What is it going to be, now that the Bledisloe and RC is wrapped up, 100th test is won, been away from home for a while and long tour ahead.
Is it the undefeated season; maintaining no. 1, building, overcoming a below standard performance - something! Squad positions aren’t really up for grabs for the NH tour like they normally are at the end of a RC campaign.
The humidity won’t be as bad on the GC that it was up in Townsville so hopefully there will be better handling on the passing.

Mine too, but I think AKira, Paps, Ardie works well too with Jacobson off the bench. I’m tempted to say that we could go with the same trio as last week but hopefully be a bit more accurate and see how things go.
I really agree that we need a bit more from our props, and we basically abandoned our forward running game last week so hopefully they bring that back.

Braydon Ennor says hello.

Ooh. Cojones (regards BB that is).

I thought Ofa didn't look match ready at all. Again, cojones. I liked how Lomax has been playing.
Retallick needs a rocket. Looking forward to him firing.
Would be nice to see the locks more in unison, I've decided the Barretts are all very strong on the 'individual' front rather than working in combos.

An edge, play better or don't play! Not many in the starting team that are irreplaceable.

Ennor says hello back, but what’s your point?

@act-crusader seems to have a hold on squad selection despite a huge gap in actually playing/body of work at the top level..

Pretty comfortable he can't do worse than last weekend....surely....

Didn't think Rieko did much wrong, problem was...

Any injuries for either team ahead of the next game?
-
Kolbey back at practice today, van Staden out with a shoulder injury, maybe long term.
If they can cut out that silly kicking in the All Blacks half and keep up their defense and forwards domination they can easily put away the All Blacks.
It's now or never.

Easily? You think ABs won't lift their performance?

I struggle to think any AB player watching the match video and analysis would walk out of that session not determined to play a shit ton better this weekend.
-
One of the main reasons to manage workloads against Argentina, to rotate these guys, was to maximize performance against South Africa. So there is pressure to perform. And their bodies should be feeling good.
-
Every player is under threat. Even world players of the year Barrett and Retallick could get usurped from a starting berth at any moment. There is so much healthy competition, no-one is safe.
-
There should be a strong desire to finish this tournament on a high note. And to finish this series against RSA on a high note. The Boks have not had the luxury of being rested and I don't think they will be able to replicate their performance from last weekend. They now know what they bring and will have a much more intimate understanding of the pressure they bring in defence and in the air. There's no excuses.
Anyway, Boks by 5

@frye I don’t disagree. I don’t want to over analyse it but on the weekend it looked like some of our players were trying a bit too hard rather than playing their natural game. This after they looked pretty geed up and ready to go at the start.

Our 7 needs to be first over the ball at breakdowns. That's not Ardie.
