Coronavirus - Overall

@catogrande I'm referring to NZ specifically here. We had a year, with a closed border policy. but we didn't build up any internal defense just hope Covid would go away or something.
I understand trying to get everyone fit is impossible, but a lot of the messaging of the lockdowns is stay home to protect others team of 5 million etc etc. I would reverse this and put it on people, whilst we had the time, to get healthy as much as they could, pump money into programs, pay per kilo haha. Because much like people claiming unvaccinated or no obeying lockdown put people at risk, the unhealthy do, more so ,as they are the most likely to put pressure on the hospital system. Could have been great time for a social re think. but maybe i'm dreaming
We had over a year. I think the temporary covid nurses could have been done in that time frame and would be useful for years as pandemic plan, much like the territorial army division -
Your point about putting infrastructure in place is well made. From the outside it looks like NZ have shut their eyes, covered their ears and cried la-la, hoping it will all go away.

We’re now a year and a half into Covid, with no end in sight.
What really annoys me about gov’t, health officials and state media regularly pointing fingers at “anti-vaxxers” is they won’t extend the same shame to obese people —who are seriously affecting fatality rates and ICUs far beyond the numbers of healthy people whose natural immunity systems offer them as much (if not more) protection than the experimental vaccines. These gov’ts and their media cohort refuse to condemn high BMIs because they have to stay in their politicially-correct lanes and refrain from fat-shaming. Evidence if any was required that our leaders can stamp their feet and blow a lot of smoke, but they’re not really serious. If we really are all in this together, than the fat-bodies need to start pulling their own weight, and our leaders need to be saying as much, pushing the message every day.
If they are vulnerable and at high-risk — and clearly they are, proven as scientific fact — they need to be getting DAILY exercise, resistance training, cardio, and dieting etc.. It’s been well over a year. There are no excuses. Covid doesn’t scare me in the slightest, but I’ve been a good citizen and vaxxed twice to protect fat-bodies and seniors. I’m still wearing a mask and nothing has changed. Fat-bodies need to protect themselves, and make necessary sacrifices for the rest of us. Put down the soda and get on a treadmill already ffs.
/End of rant.

@kid-chocolate what a load of shit.

What exactly is shit about his/her rant?
Because if you follow the science as our illustrious leaders keep fucking yammering about, this is science fact not science fiction

Imagine not being able to see your Mum before she dies?
Sorry to hear about that mate. It really does suck and no nobody deserves it. I feel for your wife because I have seen it too.
It happened to my wife end of last year. Sick Mum and I couldn't get her home to see her before she died, nor to get her to the funeral. I could get tickets and organise everything except MIQ to get wife home. She now has a desperately lonely heartbroken father that she can't visit either, because MIQ. The two weeks is no problem, nor the money, just can't get a booking. It's fucked.
Having said that I saw my Mum die on the kitchen floor surrounded by paramedics. That wasn't exactly fun either.

Can somebody explain this one to me? I haven't read this anywhere and I read a lot about this because I have to convince morons to get jabbed.
When you get your jab you don't get weighed, or even asked your weight. So how do dosages work with a vaccine? It looks one size fits all. How?
My wife is only a little over half my weight but it looked like we got the same dose. The reason that I mention it is that she has felt like shit for two days and is still in bed now. I haven't had a symptom at all (sore arm at worst if I slept on it).
@Tim ?

I had exactly that conversation with the wife who was mildly knocked around by the jab while I felt nothing. I have a pretty big tolerance for that stuff, I'll take 3x neurofen for a headache while she'd take just 1.
Guess portion size is just irrelevant for a vax

Looks that way. Had a quick google and it does seem that everyone gets the same.
The interesting part being our reactions, surely that is size / weight related? Possibly different immune system responses but I would have thought that "size matters" - yes I know.

Jesus, that’s really rough.
The MIQ system should be considered a scandal but gets no treatment at all from a compliant media.
My biggest worry is that my Dad’s cancer will go downhill super fast and I won’t make it home, but in some good news, he got a WOF from his doctor for 3 more months on the same medication.
That’s about as good as the news can be, so with luck that will hold out for a few more times and things will open up so we can get home while he is healthy enough to play with my boy.

I don't think size matters with vaccines as they're just basically showing our bodies how to build antibodies.
My sister had no reaction from her two jabs, I had a mild reaction, a skinny friend of mine got knocked out for 17 hours from his second Pfizer and a large friend of mine was laid up for a day from AZ.

Yep. Was the only real restriction to travel. Probably deliberately so but they could have had compassionate exemptions.
Fingers crossed for your Dad to get some time with your boy. Shitty times.

@snowy I believe that the only thing that changes with body size (arm fat) is the gauge or length of the needle used.
Thought that too, so asked our Jabber (old friend, known her for years) and apparently not. In NZ anyway. One needle for all. Maybe she hadn't come up against anybody fat enough yet...
Hadn't thought about the dosage previously.

That would make sense I suppose. There is no "loading" just the immune response. Interesting how different that can be though.

I remember reading/watching something. See link below.
Nice to know that we don't have any really fat people in the region although a visit to the supermarket might change some minds. Probably need some even bigger needles.
