Coronavirus - Overall

@frank I guess they are constantly developing/updating the vaccine so ultimately could end up like the normal flu and become an annual Vax, and could they end up having a single one for both covid and normal flu, like MMR vaccine?
Will people eventually build up an immunity to a point it ends up being no more than the normal flu (that some claimed it was already)

I assume that's what will happen. It happened with influenza, after the disease killed millions of people first only the survivors were left

That’s usually the way it works 😀

@kid-chocolate i really didn;t want to bite but you do know there is a different between dying due to something you've done... like swimming, and therefor accepting the consequences of your actions...and dying of COVID which you caught from doing nothing special other than being in a supermarket or something...theyre not apple and apples
i realise eventually we'll have to accept living with it but i dont think trivialising it is necessary
Maybe I am trivializing it. Maybe. When the average age of a Covid fatality is higher than the average life expectancy of the average citizen, maybe. When the average BMI of a Covid ICU and/or fatality is 100 lbs heavier than me, maybe. If people want to check their brains at the door and believe this is the 2nd-coming of the Black Plague, don’t let me stop them. They can stay scared. It’s their preference.

@voodoo not that I take too much notice of IMDB ratings, but this is rated pretty highly, 8.3/10 with 26,000 people rating it, I will will be looking to add this to my watch list
yep, I'm in! I have a min IMDB threshold of 7, so this qualifies!

....once again...you realise there is a middle ground between "its the end of the world" and "lots of stuff can kill you so dont worry"
its not just about the death toll, there are still question marks around the long term health issues and if im honest..."the worst flu ive ever experienced" which is effectively something i heard lots of times....is still something i personally am keen to avoid, we use to tell people not to come to work when they were sick before COVID

In shitty news of COVID fucking up life, just enough to make you really depressed, my wife’s grandmother just died.
Not of COVID, just old age. But, she had to die alone as no-one was allowed into the hospital to see her once she got admitted.
Even her double-jabbed sister who could have had tests every day? Nope.
So off you go all alone lady. Thanks for paying your taxes for the better part of 80 years.
Its the second member of her family to die that way and it leaves behind a pretty heartbroken family.
Imagine not being able to see your Mum before she dies?
That’s the situation two of my wife’s family have had in the last two months. They are all double-jabbed, incredibly careful people, and they just don’t deserve it.
All while Japan puts on a fucking sporting event.

That's tough, very tough and I struggle to comprehend having to go through that

@kid-chocolate 100%
I think the huge amount of fear around this virus has been engineered in such a strange way. daily updates on cases and constant news updates. I Hardly watch tv because of this. I saw the 30 year old Australian mother (sad but obese are 60% of the deaths), highlighted the other day, all seems done to make people scared and get the vaccine and obey the rules.
We have had a year to deal with this after a successful first lockdown. Train 15000 temporary covid nurses from all the annoying preachy losers on social media. Build some temporary or permanent medical centers from the 40 billion dollar fund that went into residential housing markets. Fund some fitness and nutrition for the country (dramatically increase immunity). Open up and deal with this very low fatality rate virus. lock down the immuno-compromised and elderly. pay their staff bonus pay to not break conditions.

Much of what you say chimes with me but you are really outlining long term plans. Whilst obesity and Vit D deficiency appear to be comorbidities you cannot simply get thin or get required Vit D levels overnight. There are no instant magic bullets for either. So if your plan is to solve those two issues in society (laudable) it will take a long time and meanwhile people will die, people will get severely ill, hospitals will fill up and the health service will start creaking.
